Bio-engineering

Remember this: when the first cloned the sheep, the clones did not live that long.

Another landmark event: someone who lost their eyesight had b&w cameras, which are hooked to sunglasses, wire directly into their brain, allowing them to see crude images.

Stem cell research promises the ability to regrow lost body parts.

a rat's brain grown on a peitry (sp) dish was able to be hooked up to control a robotic arm which had the simple task of drawing. Over time, the brain gained better control and patterns in the drawings started to emerge.

small things, all the time, like what rampant mentioned. but there probably wont be anything quite as big as the fist cloned mammal, or the gene table, anytime soon. but you never know for sure...

here are some things I came up with in another thread.

custom colored skin, fingernails and hair, including glow in the dark.

weight control.

regulated muscle growth (better than steroids! )

maybe eye color or even making see in the dark cat eyes or infrared/ultraviolet viewing eyes (not sure if that's possible though).

gas-proof digestive tracts.

extreme alcohol tolerance (for bragging rights or to avoid DUIs), or tolerance for other toxins.

specific modifications for unusual environments (thick layer of fat and hair for colder climes, etc)

the ability to eat and digest wood,

immunity to snake bites (can already sort of do this today).

Scent modification - maybe we can secrete some pleasant smelling organics in places normally subject to BO. Or maybe synthesize and secrete flower/perfume scents through the skin.

Gibsons, AFAIK, like/dislike of BO is a cultural thing.
ultraviolet/infrared: some animals see into these parts of the spectrum, thus I'd imagine the genes are out there.

yes, though. they have been using data on specific gene sequences that help prevent or make you suceptible to diseases to engineer drugs for years.

Well better devote the money into genetic dieseases research before those
and my God, glow in the dark hairs? A man with those would look Alien
If that's fashion of the future, I'd rather die
