Are you talking about the search bar in windows? If so it's called highlights. Right click where it says "type here to search" then go up to search to expand the options and untick "show search highlights".

If that's not your problem please be specific and tell us what you mean so we can help.

So your browser is opening without you clicking to open it on boot?

What have you done to fix the issue?

You have to provide more info to get better help. Without more info we can only guess and provide vague suggestions.

At this point I would tell you to check your browser extension and see if bing is installed. If so I would uninstall it or disable the extension. I would also look for any setting that auto loads your browser after booting. I would also check add/remove programs for a bing app and get rid of it if you don't use it. Running a couple of malware scans with different quality malware scanners is also probably a good idea.
 
What are those computers? Pre-built or assembled? Could be OEM computers that came with some crap bundled with Windows. Also, how are you logging in? Local account or Microsoft account?

We're not getting to the point. Something on the computers, not new, is telling them to open this page. One is not even used on the internet generally. I'm looking for where the switch is to turn it off.

Win key + R, type msconfig then Enter. Check the startup tab. Also, check the startup folder in the Start Menu:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Check if there is a folder here named startup and if something is in that folder. You can also use the software HijackThis! to see if it finds something hidden in the browser.
 
Install Chrome and choose it as Default Browser.


Edge derives from Chrome so they are very similar. You can still use it but not as Default.

While this phenomenon changing during the times, I currently prefer to be bothered by Google’s background intrusion rather than Microsoft. Microsoft intrusion is somewhat out of control.
