Fixed that for you!

Although it's a jest, I wonder just how much giving there would be from the rich without the tax write off incentive.

You do realize that a write-off simply lowers your taxable income by the amount donated, which means the donation costs you much more than what you save on taxes. Donations are not some awesome loophole to get you out of paying taxes.

For example, if you're taxed at 30% and donate $10,000 on an income of $100,000 it simply lowers your taxable income to $90,000 which saves you $3,000 on taxes. So you've still lost $7,000 more than you would have if you hadn't donated. The people that come out ahead on this are the charities, not the donors.

I am sure a bit less would be given if the tax incentives were removed. The reason they are there is to give people more of a reason to do the right thing. It is sad that it is needed, though.

Exactly

If she survives long after the procedure she will still have to worry about money.

If anything he has made her life a living hell.

He could have made sure she never has to worry about money again just like himself.

Man you seem miserable to be around. What the heck. Have you ever had a sick person in your family? I guess not, probably burned them for fuel.

it's a nice story.

but perhaps he could have taken a more conservative approach and offered her a job with health insurance instead of a handout ;)

This doesn't make sense to me besides sounding cute if that was your intention. If she has decent skills she would be working, if she has no skills he could give her a job doing what? Cleaning floors for $12/hour? He should just make up a job then? That seems silly.

This Billionaire is the exception rather than the rule unfortunately

What is that supposed to mean? That any billionaire is supposed to just shell out thousands of dollars to those who aren't as well off? That any man is supposed to go the extra mile to placate the whims of women he doesn't even know? It is fortunate that there is no expectation of any such nonsense.

Yeah, its not like Jobs, Zuckerberg and Gates ever donated anything.

Maybe if they just paid real taxes, instead of donating to charities their friends make millions running, and hired AMERICANS she wouldn't need to be begging for help on the side of the road.

So he saved her life by handing her $20k while she was begging on the corner? I thought that was SOCIALISM.

You don't expect better of the United States?

There is nothing "nice" about this story.

There are so many things wrong where do I even start:

1) The woman should not be in this situation to begin with if the health system of the U.S. wasn't the garbage that it is.

2) Stem Cell research and procedures should not be shunned like it is the U.S. and is embraced by the rest of the world.

Wow, you are truly a sad specimen. I understand your point about healthcare not being affordable, but your lack of gratitude and insane jealousy is a sickness. You need to do some honest soul-searching, if that is possible. This level of hatred and negativity will certainly cause you physical harm.

I just really don't care anymore. All anyone posts about is idiotic shit in this forum so what's the point? The threads are pathetic, the posters are partisan morons that couldn't come together to plow a field, and the ideas spread in this forum would be considered a virus amongst higher life forms.

Thus, I just stopped trying to care or make sense...and will probably quit posting in here in a day or three. It's pointless.

You are spinning and diverting again as usual.

Answer the question.

Do you expect any better of the U.S. or is the country doomed to looking for a handout from a Billionaire like this case on a daily basis?

Is this the trickle down you rich Republicans speak of on a daily basis?

I dont this country is doomed to look out for handouts from billionares, its doomed to get them from trillionares (the government), how hypocritical of you to bitch and moan about this guy doing the right thing, while people are leeching off of the government wrongly.

I do not expect better of this country b/c people like yourself comprise the general population: people completely devoid of any sense of morality, people who consistently shove off responsibility to someone else, people who do evil and call it good. You are the 1% and you don't even realize it.

You are so foolish as to think some type of legislation would create a moral climate in this country. So self-righteously blind that when someone does a little something that resembles good, but it does not resemble your good, you will not call it good.

P.S. I am not a republican.

I think I know what you meant by this, but what you wrote doesn't make any sense. People like him comprise the general population, yet he's the 1%? :)

The irony is that had we a fully socialized, single payer, federal health care system, this young lady would still be raising money to travel to Manilla (or Bermuda, Jamaica, or wherever) because hematopoietic (or any) stem cell therapy is not currently on anyone's list of covered procedures for chronic kidney failure. Side affects tend to be infection and rapid death.

Ty Warner did a blessed thing. Autologous stem cell therapies are paying off in many fields. Hopefully this young lady will be one of those cured by this experimental therapy. If not here, then certainly within a few decades many if not most types of chronic kidney failure will be cured through autologous stem cell therapies.

You really are the Baghdad Bob of the forum. You post something totally ridiculous, get slapped around, humiliated and hung out to dry by everyone even 1/2 of your own party, and then at the end you pop up and claim victory.

1% is symbolic, not actually representative of a numerical amount.

Of course you might be making a joke b/c I do see the humor in what you are pointing out if one takes the phrase literally :p
