Bill requiring all ammunition in California to be serialized passes committee.

It's this kind of lunacy that brought me to to position that "If someone sees me in California, it'll be because someone shipped my casket to the wrong place."

Amazingly ignorant politicians and the idiots that elect them. They're getting all they deserve.

California: America's storage facility for "unusual" people.

They oughta just stick to wine, movies (porn or otherwise), and silicon devices.

BTW: California is/was the only/first state to remove civil liability for death & disability to criminals killed or maimed by self-defense actions of their victims. Other states are such that if you kill the bad guy, his family can take you to court for wrongful death. You may win, but the legal cost will bury you (since Plaintiff's lawers usually work for a chunk of the settlement, but defense lawyers work on an hourly fee structure).

first off where do they think there going to put the serial number. without it affecting the bullets trajectory or being destroyed upon impact.

what about bird and buck shot, will they ban shotguns to prevent them from being used for gang activities?

what about hollowpoints and frangible ammo?
how are they even gunna fit a S/N onthe bullet? 5000 rounds of .22LR can be had for less than 100 bucks there going to run out of numbers real fast.
gives away the origional bullets?

does this effectivly ban old/imported/custom/odd calibers that won't be effective to produce for just one state?

My immediate thought was on the shell. This is "designed to combat gang violence". Gangbangers don't pick up their shells. Professionals do.

yea probably. in the heat of a crime one is bound to get away from you

if california keeps getting their way soon lawyers will be like utilities, they become regulated and we all pay a monthly fee to have them on tap.

Lots of misinformation in this thread as usual.

This Law as well as every other Law has come about because of money.

Did any of you possibly think these Politicos just made up a Law like this without having a Company that has a method of Serializing the Ammo???

It's called Laser Imaging and I'm sure the Company Lobbied the Politicians and have the Politicians in their pocket.

Oh, wow, so they're going to track the S/N's on the individual bullets... When they can't even properly track the S/N's on the damn GUNS.

we all know theres a couple of problems with this stupid law.

1: how will they keep track of the bullets and serial numbers?
2: what stops a criminal from buying illegal non serialized bullets from out of state? (like from nevada or internet purchase)
3: what stops a criminal from "filing" the serial number off a bullet?

this law is so freaking stupid.

i tried looking all over but i cant find a company that serializes ammunition...cant find an ammo mfg in that senator's area either.

Do you live in California?

I do, and I'm proud of my state for doing things like this.

Have you ever seen a bullet in real life? Just where in the fvck do you think they're going to inscribe a serial number on a .22LR bullet, of which they make hundreds of millions a year and is about the size of a single noodle in a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese? You'd need a freaking electron microscope to read it....

They'd never be able to fit a million transistors on a single chip either I think.

It isn't restricting any right, or anything.... it's just going to enable better tracking of the rounds, which is a good thing.

But I can easily see how outright gun advocates will cry "Big Brother!", which I guess is technically true.

Very interesting how my stance on guns colors my view of this(I'm neither for, nor against them).

You can match a bullet to the gun it was fired from now. This is a stupid law. I hope it fails to pass because all it will accomplish is to drive up the cost of ammo and it will do nothing to decrease crime.

SB 357 will strip criminals of their anonymity and give law enforcement evidence it can use to quickly and effectively solve more gun crimes.
lol, what nonsense. All this will do is increase the black market trade.

Anyone who is really into guns will usually load their own shells any way. So they have full control over everything. And they're also going to buy their supplies online or something.

And as others have said, it won't make any difference except raise ammunition prices. This won't effect criminals in any way, so they won't care. It will only affect the average joe, law-abiding citizen. You gotta love the logic lawmakers in California have. What a bunch of tards these people are.

Typical politicians. always appealing to emotional issues. That said I'm sure there will some occasions where it will help solve some homicides. The only question is what number would be to make it acceptable. A lot of "Criminals" are dumb sh!ts and might not even think about the serialization of the ammunition, well not at least not a first.

I am really into guns and I don't load my own. Do you have any idea how much reloading gear costs? You really need to be shooting a buttload of ammo to break even with reloading. Not to mention the hassle of collecting the brass and/or buying new brass, bullets, powder, primers and all the different dies for each caliber.

Most people do not load their own ammo. Most people buy ammo at their local gun store.

??? I know a lot of gun owners, while some have made shells once or twice (in a class some of them and that was it)....most buy their ammo. I knew of one hunter that loaded his own, but he also made his own booze, only ate what he killed, etc...a little bit out there.

The law in CA is going to more than likely outlaw import of non-serialized ammo.

The deal most people are not getting is, it's not each shell carries it's own number....it may not even be every box with it's own number. They are going to label sets of ammo though one way or another so that they can tell who bought what 'batch'.

The biggest problem (and none of it's a small problem, don't get me wrong) is say 10 of us bought up x number of boxes of .40 and some 'y0 f00! u gotz wanda knocked up bish!' gangbanging fool blows away 'Deebo' with the same series of ammo. Are all 10 of us getting hauled in or questioned for an alibi? IMHO they'd need to at least serialize each box independantly. Another thing people are missing here is each load can have the same serial as another load, say .22LR and 30-06. The shell type will denote what serial to go to.

Let's just say my friend in the above story shops for ammo where I do and keeps having body counts rise, but iron clad alibis each time (since he's planning these things), now say I am the guy that 3x in a row my ammo is involved in a homicide....only the last two times I have no alibi, I am living alone and friendless.

I don't know where they are going with this, but it sux.

Just something to point about the engraving or stamping of the bullets, couldnt they actually mark the actual round itself before encasing the shell on the bullet itself that way the number or mark cant be manipulated unless one actually removes the shell or bullet casing?

There is no way this crazy idea is going to work as what people posted before about stocking up on unmarked rounds.

It has long been the lawmakers goal in CA to regulate the 2nd Amendment to death.

This is yet another step in that direction.

Doing things like this?

You mean passing legislation that has absolutely no effect on criminals (which it's intended for), and only affects law-abiding citizens?

Yeah, go California!

Dude, you live in New York, WhyTF do you care about this?

Go talk on your cell phone while driving

He cares about this because if one state tries it and it works then other states are going to want to try it. Get a clue.

Maybe we won't, but it would be super if you could learn to use proper capitalization.

how you going to read it once it impacts if on the bullet? Now an idea can be to implant DNA...

great idea...so if you buy serialized ammo and somebody steals it from you and kills someone you goto jail. They just made setting someone up so much easier! HoORAY>!!!!
