It's not really his poitical topics that are heavy handed.
They are generally right leaning, but fair opinions.
Politically, reminds me of Scarborough... Another decent centrist (although O'Reilly probably hates him because he's on MSNBC .. gues what Pat Buchaanan is too)

The biggest problem with O'Reilly are his "morality crusades" and his blaming
of random people for societies problems.
Yeeah, every problem we have is defintley linked to Ludacris' rap lyrics or
Brittney Spears' sister having a baby (his two favorite topics )

If the left hates the right because the right wants government intervention in social matters and the right hates the left because the left wants government intervention in fiscal matters...

Why do we have to live our lives viewing the world through what we 'hate', why not come together on the things that we both want...

Be reasonable and vote on the good you know either side is willing to accomplish, not the hate and fear put into your heart by what people on the extremes on either side may want.

Bill O'Reilly is a loud mouthed homophobic, racist, hypocritical bigot.

I thought he supported gay marriage?

I'm pretty sure I've heard him say so on his TV show.

----------------------------------

(not refering to above)

Yeah, the lefties around here really seem to hate him. Not sure why unless it's just because "he aint' with them, so he must be against them ".

But he's no Neocon, nor GWB supporter; he seems like many people in that his political views are eclectic. He certainly does not follow any party line.

And yeah, he's arrogant as all heck and does have a habit of talking over people too much.

Oh come on guys. Bill O'Reilly is a hard right political commentator who lives on manufactured outrage. (if he hasn't started with his annual stupidity on the "War on Christmas" I'm sure he will soon.) The problem we started with is that we are comparing him to Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, etc. Sure he looks rational next to those idiots, but Jeffrey Dahmer starts to look not-so-crazy around that crowd.

I don't hate him for his political views, which again are extremely right wing, I hate him for his horrible personality. He's a bullying jackass who brings guests onto his show to yell at and promote himself, not to talk to. You know why Stephen Colbert cheers for himself when he introduces a guest? Bill-O is why. To say that he's moderate because he's no longer a GWB supporter (and don't forget he was a water carrier for Bush for a long... long time) is not exactly a testament to his moderation either. Everyone has abandoned Bush.

Sure he's better and more reasonable than the rest of the crowd on FOX. I'll be the first to say that. Just remember how pathetically easy that is to do and you'll see why people should not be cheering Bill on for his 'moderation'.

He has *some* moderate views, but his debating skills and selective memory are in a special class of nutjob.

I've never understood the hate for O'Reilly other than the fact that he's on Fox.

I think that he has ebbs and flows, sometimes he is moderate, and sometimes he is a fanatic..

That is probably the reason why I respect him least, he constantly shifts from a rational viewpoint to an irrational viewpoint. It makes it impossible for me to take him seriously when I never know what will come out of his mouth next. A crazy man yelling random phrases will probably speak some truth at some point, but that doesn't mean that I would use him as a tool for altering my viewpoints.

I never visit either of those sites, listen to Bill's show at least 3 times a week as well as Rush and Hannity (I like to get all multiple viewpoints) and only a blind partisan would associate the word "center" with Bill. He's is very very clearly on the right - the only thing that makes him appear more moderate is that he tones down some of the anger and hatred Rush and Hannity exhibit. Those 2 nutcases have managed to whip the far right into a race and culture anger this country hasn't seen since the civil rights movement.

Listening to BillO again earlier, at the close of his program he took a couple of anti-Obama phone calls, and defended Obama, with the statement 'I really believe he's more of a pragmatist like Bill Clinton' with an obviously positive intent behind that remark. He qualified it by saying he doesn't believe that Obama will be a far-left socialist type, but that it would pretty quickly be obvious as his presidency unfolds.

I seldom listen much to talk radio, as I find it exhausting after more than a few minutes of listening to arrogant and/or single-minded idiots parroting the same crap back and forth.

That said, of recent months, I tune in to Rush, BillO, Glenn, Savage etc, just to see what's out there.

Glenn, Savage and Rush : total raging bullshit from start to finish. Almost unlistenable outside of comedic value. Absolutely zero actual content aside from rage, anger, fear, and a complete slant.

BillO, OTOH, while decidedly carrying more RNC talking-point baggage than necessary, seems to be pretty moderate really. His usually even-toned presentation, tone, and surprising open-mindedness (ie; not being 100% certain 100% of the time that all (R)'s are right, and all (D)'s are wrong, indeed admitting to be unsure of many things) really took me off guard.

To add to that, the tone of his callers are a about a MILLION times more even-handed than any of the other major talk shows that I listened to. People seemed much more ready to have a fair discussion rather than go into foam-at-the-mouth rants.

Any other opinions? I don't watch the Oreilly show on Fox, so I can't comment there.

Woah, WOAH man.

You are just asking to be excommunicated, podnuh. You actually UNMUTED OREILLY?

I'm with Letterman ....

60% of what O'Reilly says is crap.

He's welcome to his craptastic opinions, though ...

Letterman is a douche-nozzle though.

All I'm saying is that O'Reilly really seems to be pretty moderate these days, particularly on the Obama/McCain stuff.

O'Reilly is not as far to the right as the other people on FOX, but I think people are allowing the absolute insane partisanship displayed by the other hosts make you think that Bill is somehow a centrist. He's still very, very conservative, he's just not off the deep end like Hannity and co.

He generally goes between vague insinuation that an Obama presidency will lead to some crazy liberal takeover and defending Obama by saying "oh I don't think he will be as bad as all THAT". Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

So no, O'Reilly is not a centrist. I can't believe we even need to have this discussion.
