Bill Nye disses Jesus

Why is he just saying this now? If it means so much to him then he should have been saying it every time "Bill Nye the Science Guy" came on.

He is just another troll.

Typical person who has never read a bible in his life. The bible simply tells of the history of man and God. As a matter of fact that are many places in the bible that support the theory of an evolving earth. But it is clear the man was created in whole and did not evolve. Many sections give a glimpse of Pre-Adam time period.

You don't need to read a bible to know that there's a religious based anti-evolution movement.

The problem is that there are many people who believe the bible, and do not take it for what it is...a book of fictional stories.

You know arguing whether something is fictional or not is to each his own. Everybody believes in something, everyone has faith, but not everyone believes or has faith in the same things.

You are an idiot.

Classic stupid comment. The missing link is a theory, that still is just a theory. I believe people should be allowed to believe whatever they want. We still all live the same life, regardless of how each person believes it started. For this man to talk about not teaching evolution to kids, now thats an idiot. Its one aspect a of a person's life, nothing more.

There' is no "missing link theory." There is tons of genetic data that shows clear evolutionary trends from 2 million years ago coming forward. We can track our evolution as a genus, not just a species. If you actually took the time to open a fucking book on the subject of human evolution (like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Lone-Survivors.../dp/0805088911), then you'd know this. But you haven't. You're just a idiot with an ignorant opinion.

A scientific theory is more than just a guess, it happens to be the most educated and tested guess that we have that endured rigorous scrutiny and continues to hold up.

Your hypothesis of whole-formed man does not hold up under the same scrutiny.

Fossils > Faith

Also, the value of science is in the admitting that we don't know and not being frightened or intimidated by our ignorance, but instead being challenged by it and inspired by it.

Yep and thats the point. So what, we have two competing theories and neither one can be proven true over the other.

So what is the big damn deal?

creationism is not a theory, its a religious belief

with evolution the theory can be tested and revised if need be should the tests show some fault with the theory, with creationism its "fact" or else you're threatened with "eternal damnation"

Wipe the slobber away and calm down 😛
LOL

Oh and its another person's theory

"In this groundbreaking and engaging work of science, world-renowned paleoanthropologist Chris Stringer sets out a new theory of humanity's origin"

And you know what thats okay. You have the right to believe in whatever. Doesn't make a person ignorant, maybe closed minded, but certainly doesn't mean a person lacks intelligence.

You are so fucking stupid that you don't even know the definition of the word 'theory.' It's not "his" theory, it's the most important scientific theory in biology. It's the skeletal structure of the discipline. Saying "I don't believe in evolution," is the same as "I don't believe in modern biology."

The fact that you don't understand this tells everyone in this thread that you are a worthless cretin. The fact that the US is full of so many fucking idiots like you who lack basic scientific literacy is a major problem facing us as a nation.

Thats true, but reality is we still after all these years still have no solid proof that man evolved.

And we never will. If you want proofs, go talk to a mathematician.

There's nothing in what Bill Nye says that's a diss on Jesus. If you want to believe the Bible is the revealed word of God, that's your choice. I view the Bible as a collection of stories passed on down through the ages and translated through scores of languages about how to live your life. A lot of those stories are interesting, entertaining, and contain a lot of wisdom. A lot of those stories are clearly fantasy. Accepting the main tenets of Christianity does not require you to abandon acceptance of science. I've spent my entire adult life studying human evolution (it's what I do for a living), and there is nothing in the fossil record or our genomes that say God isn't real, that there was no Jesus, that abortions are morally acceptable - none of that.

Pity there are many who advocate science at the expense of useful religious teachings, and pity there are many who think the Bible is a scientific text. Do yourself a favor and read Gould's NOMA.

In one corner stands a boxer with the iron gloves of fact and reason. In the other stands a boxer with a sock puppet on one hand and a tin cup in the other. Who you gonna bet on?

You need to calm down there guy. All this isn't necessary. This isn't life or death. Fact is regardless whether we evolved or were created doesn't change how we live. So just relax.
