Bill Maher really hit the nail on the head during his new rules about Brian Williams and TV news. Saying Brian's lying wasn't the problem, the problem was the nightly news sucks.
Then, Bill went into his rant that I totally agreed with and have said myself, where, all the nightly news is are newsless articles out of some Readers Digest magazine.
And not just the NBC nightly news, but all network nightly news.
Where they act like a snow storm is a big deal and something to fear.
Bill the summed that up by adding, it snows, it melts, end of story. 😉

Also, Bill rants about this trend where the news must include their "feel good" story, like the blind school bus driver, or the puppy hotel, or the serviceman reunited with his family.

What not spend five minutes linking the never before seen snow storms to global warming?
Or informing viewers about something that really matter?

But, when he summed up that all the news was, are rehashed articles from some Readers Digest magazine, Bill hit the nail on the head.
I so agree.
 
News at one time was considered a public service for the use of the airwaves. Now its entertainment and opinion. Look elsewhere for information.

Slow news days are often. I agree that NBC works hard to stay #1 but all networks are trying to dramatize news to make viewers watch. Fox News introduced commentary into the news to muddy the water even more and the other networks have followed suit.

I typically watch the headlines and ignore the stories themselves. It's like going on a date with a hot chick that you never bothered to ask her name.

Since it's instinctual that people are judged and trusted because of what's on the outside, the interior can be pretty vacant and superficial.

Ugh, more stupid ranting about the news. Yes a lot of news is shit, which is why you learn to vet your sources. Watch BBC News or PBS News Hour instead of the major networks (let alone the bullshit news networks). Hell that's a big reason I stopped watching Colbert and Stewart as way too much of it was just pointing at the obviously shit reporting and ridiculous shows on those channels. That got really old and it actually just helped those channels as then they just accepted what they are and then dropped pretty much all pretense to being legitimate news.

At this point, with how easy it would be to offer legitimate "real" news, especially for wealthy people with experience producing shows in general, it just comes across as shitty to be squawking about the talking heads. If Maher wants legitimate news, then use his connections to make it. Hell produce a Youtube show where you report on all the neglected stories or information that got left out of the day's news.

As for some of the rest, it just seems like he's trying to push agendas and not actually think about things. Trying to blame singular weather events on climate change is not really very good. There are a lot of other factors that come into play (weather related that don't necessarily involve climate change, which is why climate scientists look at trends over long periods of time and try to take into account as much relevant data as possible).

Yeah his views are pretty roughshod and he really seems to be one of those people that formulates a belief and then either looks only for things that support it or else dismisses any criticisms of it through his own ignorance.

I think Maher has lessened his anti-vaccine views although I got the impression it's not because he doesn't still feel that way but rather he realized he was only damaging his credibility and hurting the overall left leaning causes so he decided to stop talking about it. But maybe he actually did change his opinions after discussing things with some of the guests he's had.

I've never really enjoyed him and his schtick though. Even when I agree with his point I feel like he gets it across in a horrible manner that just makes people want to disagree with him (and also punch him in the face).
