Which we never hear about...

Maybe you haven't. Even in the Tsunami disaster itself, he and his wife gave more than most countries did.

To me, it's better to have a company or person do so much for humanity than it is for them to do it and then brag about how great they are because of it. Bill Gates said in an interview that becoming a parent has taught him more about life than anything else he's ever done and that visiting some specific country in Africa (forget which one) taught him that material posessions and success are worthless without regard for your fellow human being.

His software engineers can be assholes sometimes 🙂P), but Bill Gates is a great man.

urg...you people..The quoted person stated that his contributions far outweight his achievements........my point was that in general, more media coverage is given to acts of immediate controversial interest rather than to acts of charity. I thought that would be obvious....I was jsut reinforcing it.
Obviously I know that he gives a lot, but it doesn't get a lot of publicity. That said, I don't parade my charitable donnations around, so it is understandable...

..and it would be nice to hear more about what he does, but news entities usually don't care...

well said. Sucks that he won't get the "sir" though....what's the point of being knighted if you don't get called "sir"?
