Microsoft?s MP3 Player "Advice"

Bill Gates's gang has cooked up a nice lil' self-serving set of tips to help clueless shoppers buy a "MP3 Player with Flash Memory." The tip sheet is chock full of wonderful nuggets, such as, "You'll want a display," "Flash memory is skip-free and durable," and our favorite, "Don't get locked into one online store."

Six Tips for Buying an MP3 Player with Flash Memory

haha, every single one of those popular options are non-ipod features 🙂

4. Let a professional make your next playlist.
Having an FM radio lets you put your player on autopilot as you mountain bike, cycle, or rollerblade. And when you're sweating it out on the stationary bike at your health club, you can listen to the program airing on the club's TV. You want to have something that is fun, lightweight, and flexible. And FM radio is a key feature that many players offer at no extra cost, even for less than $100.

If FM radio didn't suck so bad, mp3 players wouldn't be so popular.

i really don't know why so many people want FM radio on an MP3 player. i bought an MP3 player to get away from the sh!t on the airwaves, not to wallow in it.

...why so many people want FM radio on an MP3 player.

If it's thrown in for free, WHY NOT? There's talk radio, news, weather sports... probably the same reason they don't build automobile head units without FM!

Hmmm...What's wrong with any of the above "nuggets"? I happen to agree with all of them.

Cliff noted it:

1. Understand the basics.
Don't buy an iPod Mini, iPod, or iPod color.

2. Make sure you're getting all the goodies.
Don't buy an iPod Shuffle, iPod Mini, iPod or iPod color.

3. You'll want a display.
Don't buy an iPod Shuffle.

4. Let a professional make your next playlist.
Don't buy an iPod Shuffle, iPod Mini, iPod or iPod color.

5. Pick the right size for you.
Don't buy an iPod Shuffle, iPod Mini, iPod or iPod color. And never use iTunes.
