I don't know much about bikes, I am trying to learn however. I have an entry-level Specialized mountain bike I put flats on and use in the city.
It has front suspension I want to get rid of for a static fork.
I'm also missing a washer or some kind of component in the headset (I remember if fell out moving between cities) and there's a pretty noticable creaking when I put a lot of pressure on the bars. I asked the local bike shop about this and they put a washer (or something similar) in the headset to tighten it up, but I still don't think it's very safe.
My question: For a straight forward / entry level hybrid city bike, is there a specific type of front fork I should look for? And will it come with a new headset? Or is that part of the bars? I am more concerned with replacing the headset entirely.
Thanks!
