i have a bicycle i'd like to store in the garage (currently in living room) but there are a bunch of spiders in there.

do you guys use some kind of cover to keep them off?
how effective are they?
or do you just check for spiders before you ride?
or do you not care about them being on your bike?

google isn't much of a friend when it comes to this. curious what your first-hand experience is regarding this. thanks!

Do spiders make webs on everything? Have you tried giving your garage a cleaning? I used to keep mine in a tool shed - the only time there might be a spider on it is if it had been sitting around for a week, and a quick wipe with a towel takes care of it.

Spiders?! Oh nooooes!

Do you lack a y-chromosome?

Anyway, try this and see if it works. Get a large sheet of thicker plastic, the stuff they sell at hardware stores (thicker than what they use for paint drop cloths.) Fold it in half (so that one edge is solid.) Sandwich 2 of the edges between a sheet of newspaper. Run an iron over it to seal it. Slide bike inside the 3rd open edge, then repeat the iron sealing over most of the edge, leaving just enough room to stick a shop vac hose in. With iron hot and waiting, stick shop vac hose in (on reverse), suck the air out to shrink wrap the bike. Then, as you pull the hose out, quickly seal the last remaining gap.

Pics if you attempt this. If it works, it'd be pretty cool. You'll need to leave a lot of extra plastic to help conform to the shape of the bike without puncturing.

Most spiders I don't mind but I've been finding black widows in our storage room. Right now I've just been careful and wearing gloves but I need to figure out how to keep those stupid things out.

yeah, here's the problem. something small and harmless i could care less. but if they're big or deadly, then i've got a problem. i just killed a huge spider recently outside of my garage and don't want one of those things jumping out while i'm riding around.

BN, let me know if you figure out a way and i'll do the same. i need to get gloves for sure. thanks!

Road or mountain bike?

If it's mountain, Shimano has a special XTR anti spider component level. You'll need that. Costs about $2k. SRAM has something similar - it's their level above XX.

If it's road things are a little more difficult. There are no anti spider road components. You'll need a regimen of EPO, steroids, and HGH.

Good luck!

The only thing that will keep spiders off your bike is regular use.

Other than that, spiders will not harm your bike at all, nor will hanging it upside down from the rafters of your garage, nor will cold or heat for that matter. Leaving it out in the rain and snow will definitely affect it though.
