My Chinese history professor once mentioned that Chinese jade stores did not sell their jade carvings. Instead, they kept them like displays in a museum. This may have been because my professor was American and they did not want to sell to him. I really wonder about the story behind how that family gained possession of those items. It would be great if any of our Chinese members provided some insight into this topic.

They made mention that this was around immediate post-war China. With the huge turmoil of the country then it is not surprising.
