Is there anything off the shelf bigger than this?
The vertical height is the most important factor here, my Ripper XXL just isn't cutting it currently.
 
I use an alsop mouse pad these days that is 12" x 12" and I understand where you're coming from. I hate when my moue runs off the edge and the feet get caught especially when I'm playing a run and gun like bf3. Have you tried searching for a pad by size?
 
If you are using a laser mouse, you can use just about any smooth surface. A sheet of good bond paper works very well.
 
Found an even larger version here. This size isn't even advertised on their official site. Hopefully the dimensions are correct, I went with it.
