Modern Warfare 2 was horribly disappointing for me.

Fable was a big fail in many ways thanks to Molyneaux's lies.

I don't care what anybody says. PD is just not as good as Goldeneye. The levels were better in Goldeneye and Goldeneye had more charm. It had a subtle goofiness about it that I loved. You could shoot them in the ass and they would jump up! When enemy rockets was turned on, they would blow themselves up and you would hear from the other room, "ohh!" PD just tried to take itself too seriously. When you killed someone in PD, you would hear stuff like, "I'm dying!" Thanks Rare, for making it depressing to kill people!

Half-Life 2
I have to agree with the other things said before. HL2 was not a bad game but it is overrated. The only fun levels in my opinion are Ravenholm (Which is in the demo) and the Nova Prospek (sp?) level.

Any Mario Kart after MK64
MK 64 is the best one in the series. After that they tried to make the game to complicated. For example, in the gamecube version they added that tag-team crap.
Then with the wii version, there's the different vehicles.

I have to throw four out there I haven't heard mentioned yet:

Master of Orion 3

Doesn't need an explanation if you were a fan of the series prior to this game. How they managed to butcher one of the most beloved strategy series of all-time in one fell swoop still stings to this day.

Black and White

Talk about a game with SO MUCH POTENTIAL. The idea was fantastic, the atmosphere and style was great and unique. Everyone WANTED this game to be great. Everyone. And IGN goes and gives it a perfect 10 out of 10 rating.
...and it sucked. It was a buggy mess with some great ideas and decent implementation here and there, but too many GAPING holes and AI flaws.

Silent Hunter 5

Where to start....horrid performance, subpar visuals and effects, GAME-OBLITERATING BUGS, overbearing DRM, HORRENDOUS AI, total lack of polish, majorly dumbed-down gameplay like it was suddenly being ported to the DS or something, and the list goes on. Complete and total butchering of a once-great series.

Civilization 5

Most - if not all - early NES/PC games with fancy packaging/cover art inevitably was craptacular.

Now with the advent of the internet/youtube, it's completely on you if you've bought a steaming pile expecting something glorious.

With Modern Warfare 2 i totally agree. I mean it's the same deal you play over again and again. want to see something different from the series that brought so much joy at the binging

I'll add another vote for DA2.

Purebeast0, I agree with your comments about the skill cap from SMK to SMK64, however SMK64 was great (as already mentioned) because 4 player race mode was boss. I was greatly saddened that battle mode was crap, but with 4 players racing, nothing can replace that.

Agreed with this one. MoO3 is downright tedious.

For me:

Perfect Dark
It was a decent shooter but had way too many bugs to completely enjoy it. Blow up an N-bomb anywhere in multiplayer and no one would be doing much for a couple minutes (especially if more than one person got caught in it). Though it does have my favorite game quote, one time I shot a guard in a room of two early in the game, the other guy kneeled beside and said "OH MY GOD, HE'S DEAD! Ah, I never liked him anyway."

Red Dead Redemption/GTA4
This is one I group together because they use the same engine and the same complaints. I really don't know how these games got (near-)perfect review scores with such garbage control mechanics. Don't think I've liked a Rockstar game since Vice City. Spent the most on RDR compared to any game in the past decade, boy was that NOT worth it.

Far Cry 2
Ubisoft Montreal spent two weeks in the Kenyan savannah "researching" the environment, but they should've done another 2-4 weeks at a weapons range. For the amount of "effort" they put into weapon degradation, it was a crappy job. They'd have you believe that every gun has a stick of dynamite hidden inside. EDIT: Forgot to mention...the respawning was bad. WAY worse than Oblivion ever was.

I can't tell if games are let downs or if I'm just not interested in video games like I used to be. I beat every FF from 7-12 and bought 13 but didn't even open it. MGS4 was good, but the first 3 were definitely better (SE might be the best game ever imo). Games are only 'good' to me these days, never great like I remember. Kind of just feel like I'm wasting time when I play them now.

BTW my entire post is not applicable to Starcraft 2. I play that constantly and have not played any other game for more than a few hours since the SC2 Beta came out. I feel like I'm wasting time still, but fuck that game is a way of life.

Perfect Dark - thank you! I played maybe one level out of that before trading it in. What a piece of shit. No wonder Rare got dumped by Nintendo.

Turok was a piece as well...wanted it to be good...and it was not :(

Half Life 2

What the Fuck? How is this linear corridor shooter, with gimmicky physics, a Bland, Shallow, Generic story(Aliens Invade Earth! again...), and Horrible gameplay at the top of almost every pc gamers' list? It's Shit! You paid 50$ for the game in 2004 and now you're paying 20$ every few years for more DLC? Excuse me episodic content. It's like whatever valve does no matter how shitty is always excused by the goddamn fanbase. But as soon as another developer does it it's scorned! And don't get me started on the countless retconning. Retcons are why I don't read American Comics anymore. One Issue the main character dies. The next it never happened!

portal series

Seriously This game is shit. Another gimmick over extended to the point of absurdity. And yet the hipsters shit themselves all over when portal is brought up in a conversation. Oh look I made a cake Joke I must be an internet nerd! No story, No gameplay, Just gimmicks! Stop kissing valves fat ass they're not your friends! They're no better than EA/Activision. Zero day DLC, Zero Gameplay, Zero fucking reason to innovate. Oh look it's source it must be great!

I'm sick of the valve fanboys. They act just like mac users. Spouting the same nonsensical shit as apple fanboys do. Fuck the source engine! Who gives a fuck about what engine a game is on. Source is a piece of shit compared to Unreal. Source can't scale well for large maps. Source was designed with Intel Integrated Graphics in mind. Yes you can play hl2 on a 2004 dell with Intel gma 900. Doesn't mean you should be shitting yourselves about how great source is. Source needs to die.

GTA 4

It didn't have 1/10 the fun of the previous GTA games. Oh look I can make realistic people with brown and bloom! Gameplay? What's Gameplay? Where are the shit awesome vehicles from SA and VC? Where's the awesome guns? Where is the fucking Open sandbox gameplay that I loved from the GTA series?

Bad Company 2

Another fucking console port. BC2 is an over inflated arena game ported to the PC with no concern for the KBM.

Halo

Fucking shit killed PC gaming.

U mad?

Just Cause 2 was a let down. The videos and spoilers showed using a grapple hook to kill enemies in the most creative way possible, the awesome stunts and.. well.. combat system. But none of that EVER happens. Oh, and the dlc was a rip off. $2.75 for Rico's signature pistol, supposed to be the best pistol in the game. But no, hardly any ammo, no other ways to get ammo besides buying the gun (with in-game currency) again, and again and again.

BOTTOM LINE: It had more promise than deliver.

If you had the PC version you could just use console codes or a trainer.

Warcraft III.

Back in the day I installed it off a friend's copy, played a couple of custom games, immediately uninstalled and went back to playing Starcraft. I hated everything about it - muddy control feel and unclear terrain, mechanics, even setting and graphics. So bland compared to well-done 2D sprites. :( It's only with SC2 that they achieved sufficient detail and organic feel in the control, terrain and models to make 3D feel fine.

A few years ago I thought to give it another shot, bought III+FT off budget shelf and started playing the single player on Hard. Got bored 3/4 of the way through III and never even touched FT.

Warcraft 3 was a pretty big let down for me too. Was expecting much more from the gameplay after so many years of waiting. It looks to me like they put much more time and effort into the videos, which were undoubtedly the best ever seen at that point.

I don't think Half Life 2 was a letdown, but I do sort of agree with you. It is a linear corridor shooter with virtually no story. The physics were good although the physics/gravity gun puzzles do get old after a while.
I can't stand HL2. It seems like it lacked story. There's no explanation for what's going on. 1/3 of the game is driving and 1/3 is avoiding the ground. It seems like the whole game is a bunch of random crap. I played through it once and never played it again.

Quake 3 was a let down too. There's no single player. wtf? Quake 1 is still a freaky game to play and Quake 2 is cartoonish fun, but Q3 has no redeeming qualities.

LA Noire-bought it and than sold it back to gamestop. So slow and boring
AC1 bought because walmart did not have Modern Warfare. Played the game for awhile, relized I was doing the same thing over and over again. Traded with a friend for MW.

Q3 CTF is the only reason I still play it sometimes...easily my most-played game ever.
