Unreal Tournament 3 (like Quake 3) was specifically made for multi-player. And when I played this game, there were at least another 4 people playing with me... and it was fast and fun. But yes, the campaign mode in that game was a total joke.
except that no one played it and is a totally gimped game, which is whatm akes it disappointing

Need for Speed Shift 1 & 2

I thought maybe it'd be a simbin type game with good licensed cars and great graphics, or at least a rip-off of GT4/5

Stupid leveling system, cars handle like there is a pole driven through the roof into the pavement (they turn on a central pivot and not like they have four rubber tires), can't jump into a race without some idiot talking to you every step of the way, can't skip videos (seriously?), stupid head movements and vision blurs you can't turn off when accelerated or hitting something.

These two games could have been the Forza PC gamers always hoped for, and Shift 2's list of cars is nothing short of spectacular. Somehow they took the most exciting subject in the world and sucked the fun of it.

Red Dead Redemption.

It'll be like GTA in the Wild West...only utterly boring.

Which proves that this thread is totally subjective. I have heard nothing but rave reviews for Red Dead Redemption and it is on my list to get around to some day.

But to prove that exact point, I hate the GTA series and have zero interest in it's content or genre. Yet the Spiderman games based on the same formula are amongst my favorites.

Indeed. For what it's worth, I would say that Red Dead Redemption is easily in the top 5 games of the last decade.

the MW3 hate thread got me thinking bout games that i was disappointed with. so i figured i'd make a thread asking what people's most disappointing games of all time were. i can think of a few off the top of my head.

1. Mario Kart 64

after the masterpiece that was the SNES version, this game was such a pile of shit. the fastest cc class in that game felt like 50cc class in the SNES version. they removed the whole jumping/sliding mechanic and replaced it with this stupid ass sliding mechanic that took about 30 seconds to master. the game had absolutely no sense of speed and it took about 2 hours to master the entire game, whereas the skill and precision needed in the SNES version was nowhere to be found. it seems this series has continued to take the same route by dummying down so much in it and making it extremely casual friendly.

2. Super Mario Sunshine

after what is agruably the best game of time, Mario 64, to be so excited for the sequel, and get something as shitty as Mario Sunshine ... wow, what a downer. it barely had anything in it that made Mario 64 so awesome, and went a totally whacky direction with having the water jet attached to mario. this game just had no charm and had some really frustrating controls and parts in general.

3. Gears of War 2

after anticipation from the first game, the bug ridden experience that was Gears 2 was just awful. the single player and multiplayer were just so filled of bugs that i stopped playing this game very quickly. the only saving grace to this game was bringing on horde mode, which now seems to be a standard in multiplayer shooters.

4. MGS4

well i can't say i was too disappointed with this, because i didn't expect much after part 2 (never played part 3, but hear it's great), but even then it was just terribly disappointing. after all the hype built up on that game, it was just a slow boring monotonous game that suffered from clunky and awkward controls. i never got around to finishing it, stopped at act 4. just didn't find it fun and it was more of a chore to play than anything, and the pace of the game was just awful w/all the long cutscenes in between.

Must have been very ronery in your youth to not like Mario kart 64.

MGS4 was not my cup of tea but I know of others who played it again multiple times especially in the harder difficulties.

Sunshine was different but definitely not a candidate for most disappointing.

Gears 2 that is a maybe if you only played the multiplayer. Still better than other games.

For example as reiterated by others:

Duke Nukem Forever - I swear it was like they just saw what was done in the game and slapped a label on it and called it gold. If they had looked closely at flow, presentation, and just basically the game itself it might have been salvaged and maybe done well.

Fable 3 - Do I need to explain this one?

Perfect Dark Zero - Expectations were too high but there were game mechanics that really didn't help this game.

Age of Conan - like other mmo games they were paraded out as a WoW killer and like so many they were crushed by the warhammer that is Blizzard. It is somewhat fun but no one stuck around for very long. Grinding from level 40-52 in a cave because there were no quests? Really!?

Dragon Age 2 - This is a mixed bag. The direction that they took was interesting and by itself if it was presented before Dragon Age 1 it might have been received well. The problem was that they tried to make it accessible console gamers (action button spammers). The concept of giving a command to a character to attack vs. pressing a button causing a sword to swing was probably something that Bioware heard from people not into/new to the genre (complaints at least) - this would have been a hurdle along with the concepts of commanding a group and pausing action to give other commands. If you play Dragon Age 2 you will notice that you can basically play as one character, not pause the action, and simply button smash your way through all if not 99% of them.

I myself at least got wiped out multiple times and by simply changing strategies was able to overcome fights in dragon age 1. This along with the large countryside and decisions that "did" have an effect on characters made Dragon Age 1 in my view great and it is what dragon age 2 missed. If 3 is made I won't be picking it up until it is in the $10 bargain bin because I am dead certain that the game mechanics will stay 95% close to what Dragon Age 2 is.

Rave reviews, yes. Technically impressive achievement, yes. But I found the whole game boring as hell. The story is plodding and incredibly slow-moving. The mini-games like herding cattle and such are entertaining for a brief period, then become repetitive and tiresome.

I guess if you just run around and mess with the world, it's slick. But if you actually try to go someplace with the story, it's extremely over-hyped.

Modern Warfare 2

Mass Effect 2

Socom 4 was a flaming pile of shit and is so bad that those other 2 games I listed do not deserve to be in the same post as the Zipper killer.

What did you think of Skyrim? Just curious.

I'll have to disagree, while the general feel of the game is similar, there have been some tweaks to the AI that have improved it a bit (primarily with agressiveness on the harder difficulties, as well as the pathfinding during lobbed passes).

The only two things I really wish Fifa would fix is:

1. Don't put me on solid rails when making long passes. Even on full manual everything it is difficult to fight for the ball with any sort of responsiveness.

2. More importantly, give me the ability to play MM online coop with others. Hell, rock band has this, you can't do it fifa? come on.

Top underperforming game on my list: Spore, bar none.

ff13 and dragon age 2 are the worst games Ive seen in my days.

Ive kind of given up on gaming since games these days just get worse and worse.

Only thing I play these days is old rpgs and rts.

Disciples III - i have not really played it yet but according to the reviews as well as comments from customers on their forums not only is the game filled with bugs the gameplay is also inferior to Disciples II.

Oh yeah, it sucks ass. I went ahead and purchased D2 again on Steam cuz I love it so much.
Uninstalled D3. Wish I could gift it or sell it. Not on Steam.

25 to life. I think I mentioned this a few hundred posts back. But yeah, sucked.

Twisted metal 3 has quickly made my top 10 really bad POS games list.

I HATE GTA. Absolutely HATE it. RDR however was great...

Minus the constant "Aw what did you eat?!" and "These are what I was looking for" actions when skinning/picking.

I had a lot of fun with GTA III, bought Vice City when it came out and promptly sold it the next day, it was literally the same game to me. Just couldn't play it.

Duke Forever
Rainbow 6 Everything after Ravenshield
Ghost Recon, everything after the first one
Unreal 2
Halowars

This one was popular but more for me personally, I wanted more out of borderlands.. I especially hated the rate of enemy respawn

I really didn't like Red Dead either. I wouldn't call it a huge disappointment, I think I just don't care for westerns. That said, plenty of people have agreed with his view that it was lacking, including me.

i hated Red Dead Redemption. but then again i got tired off the whole GTA gameplay.

Red Dead Redemption.

It'll be like GTA in the Wild West...only utterly boring.

Red Dead Redemption/GTA4
This is one I group together because they use the same engine and the same complaints. I really don't know how these games got (near-)perfect review scores with such garbage control mechanics. Don't think I've liked a Rockstar game since Vice City. Spent the most on RDR compared to any game in the past decade, boy was that NOT worth it.

Red dead redemption.
A skinned over GTA game. Maybe I'm getting to old for sand box. Or maybe sand box has been done wrong. Actually the story almost had me, and I might try it again if I'm in a different mood. But then again, I have to go back and forth on this horse how many miles. Yes deserts can be boring, but games shouldn't be.

I don't know if you're just spamming gifs to up your post count or maybe you work for Rockstar or are just a big RDR fan, but there are plenty of people who disagree with you. Hell, someone in this thread said Quake 3 sucks and I still watch highlight vids of the 2006 pro season tourneys with Toxic, Fat, Socrates, Cooler, etc. Just because someone doesn't share your opinion doesn't mean they are wrong, it just means we aren't as easily entertained by deserts and horses dude.

Loved GTA IV, can't wait for V, but didn't really care for RDR. The open world seemed so uninteresting to me in RDR. It was just a big ol wilderness, nothing really going on. I think 75% of the time I played was just travel time, mindlessly hitting a button to make the horsey go.

A lot of critically acclaimed games just haven't been doing it for me lately. Couldn't really get into Deus Ex HR either, and despite all it's awards, batman arkham asylum did nothing for me.

And then on top of that, a lot of the big AAA titles like gears 3 and AC:R aren't having the impact on me they used to, since I feel like I'm just playing the same game from 3 years ago.

It's time for new consoles.
