I have had this problem in about 4 computers in the last month

Using dial up, it will connect, the little green connection lights are on in the systray, but IE will not load pages and you cannot ping things. What is wrong w/ this? i fixed it a couple times by installing xp, so obviously all the hardware is good, but which setting makes it so it works?

Are you properly bound to TCP/IP? Do you have internet connection sharing installed? Do yoou get a specific error message when trying to load webpages?
