big video performance issues!

i've got 2, i think, related issues.

first, with my msi-6321, i have NEVER been able to succesfully enable AGP4x. ive tried a Radeon 64 VIVO, 9000, and now i'm running a 9500. when i try to enable 4x, on most of my cards i get a black screen (no signal, actually) following the windows boot screens in place of the log-in screen (did you follwo that ?) with the 9500, in stead of no signal, i get back and orange striped distortion!

i have the newsest bios and relatively new via 4n1 and agp drivers, plus up to date windows drivers (xp sp1).

i have never, ever been able to get 4x to work.

the second issue is me 3dmark 2003 scores on my machine. regardless of my screen size, filtering, AA, etc settings and regardless of my driver's, i get only between 500 - 800 for a 3dmark score!!

it seems to me like what is limiting the performance is not the card itself, or even my other hardware, but the amount of data being passed to the card. i say this b/c the score is only marginally impacted by the amount of calculations that need to be done by the card.

any tips on enabeling 4x? and does it sound like my performance is an agp issue? or is there likely something else?

thanx for your help!

i think that it definately sounds like a problem with ur mobo. try the 9500pro in someone else's machine first tho...

make sure that u have a good power supply, atleast 350w

i just picked up this power supple: Lite On deal
it's only 300W, but from what the thread reviewers said, it's pretty much a tank. could this be part of the problem? i can still return it, its only a couple weeks old........
