If you remember there used too be only fans listed there only up too 35db. Too peoples request i've added some 300-400 more fan specs too the page complet specs from the majors fan manufactures, phew... has taken me over a time of a month. Does it look too clobbered now, like the list is too long? Its been suggested i should maybe put a filter on it so it will only display fans under 35db, only if a knew how, anyone know how? :)

I need a little help with the list. The column with prices, alot are blank. If you know where they can be bought lemme know.
It can't be a surplus, not on sale has to be regular price, and comes with a connector.

My vote is: "great the way it is"

What an indespensable resource this has always been. Thanks!

BTW - I just ordered 4 fans right now, just because I was browsing your database!

Actually, it would be pretty easy (as in, I could do it in an hour or two) to harvest that data and put it into a database where you could do just about anything you want with it. It would require a host that allows some sort of scripting platform like ASP, PHP, or Cold Fusion (my preference). From that point the interface could be programmed to support sorting, filtering, pagination, anything that was needed.

Great resource, I use it frequently.

Thanks, GiZzo. You've made something that was already a great resource even better.

Thanks guys for the motivation :)
No Pop ups? theres some, sometimes they get annoying..but i guess its what i have too sacrifice to get free reliable webspace.

I got new projects coming, still in slow progress im doing good unbiased recording of the most popular fans so you guys can compare more in depth by sound just not specs. You know like at sidewinders but i've heard alot of negative about those recordings and the selection they too listen from have blows! Its taking me a while if some may remember i was talking about this almost a year ago, just getting everything just right :) <-perfectionist

You could probably even skip a database backend and make a delimited text file of the fan info and write scripts that will do the database functions ... would run semi decent if traffic isn't extreme.

Bearing:
Sleeve = solid bronze (or some other composite) sleeve. These are usually quiet, but wear out fastest.
Ball = ball bearing. Noisier than sleeve but last forever.
Hydro-wave = the "bearing" is provided by an oscillating sealed in fluid. Quietest, seem to last pretty long but can go bad.

CFM: cubic feet per minute

Ratio: CFM to noise ratio - the higher the better depending on your noise preference.

RPM: revolutions per minute - lower is quieter, and depending on the fan generally a more mellow noise. Higher RPM is generally more high pitched. Two fans can sound about the same in terms of loudness, but high pitched fans can be more annoying at the same volume level.

Noise: The volume level of the fan (pitch matters too in my opinion, but there's no rating for that). 22dBA and below is quiet, up to around 35dBA is bearable but annoying if you sleep in your room. I don't think I'd want anything higher than 35dBA. This is all in my opinion, though. You can't get your comp. below around 22dBA unless it's a low power computer or without paying out the nose....
