Big Typhoon Problem!

I just installed a Big Typhoon onto my P5W DH Deluxe and it did indeed lower my temps considerably but now I've got a weird (dangerous?) issue going on. While monitoring the two independant cpu temps, they're fine... 38 idling now compared to 44 before... but when I start to run orthos, the diode temp (the default cpu that asus reads) begins to really, really climb. From 28 degrees C to 70 C! Something has got to be wrong here, any ideas? I put the foam thing and insulator on the back of the motherboard as indicated in the directions, could this be causing my problem? Thanks for the help, asap!

well for one thing, if your idling at 38C, there is no way the core temperature is 28C.

I would say that if you are idling at 38C, the core temperature is in the 50s. When you run orthos, it climbs to 70C. Seems pretty normal to me.

What is not normal is idling at 38C. Are you overclocked? How much voltage are you putting into the chip?

are u TATing also? 70C seems a bit high on orthos. It would be almost normal on TAT however. But if your idles were 44C thats a bit excessive also. Im starting to think your IHS might be messed up and it could use a good lap job.

Lately, if someone has a C2D heat problem, 80-90% is because intel messed up on there IHS. All it takes is 30 min with 3 different types of sand paper to lap your cpu. Google it and theres plenty of instructions on how to lap it.

I'm sorry, it is possible that I've been unclear. Asus has its own CPU temperature, which reads from the diode as opposed to the actual cores... usually this is decievingly lower than coretemp's true cpu temps. In this case, the Asus CPU temp idles about 6 degrees lower than the coretemp readings (which are ALWAYS reasonable, and have become better after Typhoon installation) but upon orthos OR TAT testing, slide up towards 70 C. However, the coretemp readings show that the individual cores are still quite reasonable at 48-52... so I'm not sure what is going on. Could the foam backing from the Typhoon be retaining heat? Or perhaps the motherboard sensor is just wacky.

AHHH that cleared it up completely. I would still use another program like Coretemp, or RMClock. See if all the programs are reading simular or near simular core temps.

I had a simular problem like you on one of my video cards. The foam was pushed up so hard that one of my vid cards reported 30 and the other 45. All i needed to do was re AS5, put rubber wasters inbtween the foam and card so the foam was pushed off a little and it fixed that problem.
