Big Typhoon help?

Hi,
I'm considering getting a Thermaltake Big Typhoon to use with an Asus A8N-SLI Premium.
Anybody knows if it fits?

The intructions (from website) for installation say not to remove the original motherboard backplate when in use with a K8, How do I install it then?

Just like you would set up the stock heatsink, I guess. The heatsink itself should come with instructions.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the big typhoon seems to be the best cooler out there right now, and it is also ultra quiet, its fan only runs at 1300 RPMS

Keep in mind it's about 813g, and the design of the heatsink will put a lot of torque on the motherboard. The only heavier h/s I'm aware of is a Coolermaster Hyper something-or-other, and that's around 830-865g, somewhere in that area.

Also keep in mind of TT's total disregard for reporting "truthful" dba ratings. Its a crime in my book. There was one review I read that put the Typhoon ahead of the xp90/120, 7700, and the 9500 as well. Just one though that I have found.

Maybe they have a sense of humour, they are fairly common you know.

To answer your question, the heatsink is probably designed to mount to the stock backplate of that motherboard, hence you don't have to remove it and you can screw the typhoon to the stock mounting plate. Not sure about fitment, but I would imagine they have measurements on their website.

Dude, I just did it last night. Totally fits, but its a PAIN in the uhoh. If you do buy one, totally do the entire installation outside the case!!

I have also heard that said to do the install outside the case!

But I was also told if you take your time and plan carefully the install-- I do mean plan carefully and NOT be in a hurry you can do the install in the case!
It will just take a little bit of time.

I tried to install mine inside, but in my Sonata, the PSU was right up to the edge of the motherboard. Taking 5 minutes to remove the MB and install outside the case was WELL worth it. Much easier.
