Big truck does BIG damage to Bastille Day celebrators

Equivilent of an 18-wheeler drives into a crowd in Nice, France who were celebrating Bastille Day and, so far, the toll is 30 dead and 100 wounded. The driver also was shooting (according to the article) and was killed by the police. Truly terrible.

Edit: now it says 60 dead. :'(
edit2: It just gets worse. CNN saying 73 dead.

edit3: unfortunately, the toll this morning has risen to 84 dead and 50 critical. The truck driver, while a petty criminal, apparently has no known association with Islamist extremism.

I saw a twitter feed that just raised the death toll to 60.

Sad none the less, my condolences to all the families and friends of the dead.
 
I was wondering when they were going to start foregoing the bombs.

Horrible stuff, and it happened to my favorite place in France (I'll take Nicois over Parisians any day)

France and Belgium are catching a lot of heat lately, I hope they pull out all the stops and bury these fuckers.
 
All the big 3 (ABC, NBC, CBS) news just show that story tonight. Several deads, more wounds. Yike. Stay tuned if it was a planned attack.

How do you prevent tragedies like this from happening? The reality is you can't because they are so random. Anybody with a grudge, ideology, and mental illness can cause harm at will.
 
Naively believing that you can stop these guys by banning things or pretending they don't exist within your population won't make them go away. When will the left learn? Stop pretending there is no radical violent jihadist problem in the world and stop looking for scapegoats in objects or other groups who are nowhere near as violent in practicing and preaching their religion.

What the hell does it have to do with "The Left" to begin with.

Daesh is getting smashed at home atm, they are getting more desperate it seems. I guess that lefty in office atm is just giving them a pass.

NATO has AWACs even up them flushing them out recently, and that took awhile. Most posters sound really ignorant.

Can you stop them? No we can't and so I'll agree with you here. However you can certainly reduce the occurrences by targeting specifically the groups who are prone to commit these acts of mass violence and avoiding the mistake that they don't exist or that "Nothing can be done" to mitigate the level of violence stemming from these violent movements and their supporters.

The left can't understand. They are incapable of understanding. Hard men understood, but since then, the left has tried to pussify the entire globe.

Even today, the EC tried to force EU countries to give "refugees" jobs. As if that will make the situation better and stem the tide.

They simply think that if they let themselves get raped, over and over, that they'll stop getting raped.

...and exactly as I stated in another thread just today, EXPECT A SPIKE IN TERRORIST ATTACKS AROUND THE WORLD. When they don't have a state to maintain they can spend all of their time on us.
 
Can you imagine the damage if the truck was a fuel truck 18 wheeler with full of gasoline and some explosive and a driver that would want to die so he can be with 72 virgins?

The state was never going to be. Do you honestly think they thought it would be?

They were up against Iran, USA, Saudis, Israel, Jordan, USSR, and the rest of the west. These people, no matter how unsophisticated, were not dumb.

The cancer has metastasized. Now do you want to use radiation/chemo/surgery, or just sit there and let it spread?

You are addressing an argument I didn't make (in addition to stating the obvious).


France has powerful legislation and security forces to use against terror, the question is will they continue to employ it. You'll notice Hollande cooled off rather quickly after the last round of attacks in Paris, and the French military started to scale back anti-ISIS involvement after a flurry of reciprocity.

Lone wolf attacks are the hardest to prevent, but it's not impossible.
