Big time stuck in civ3, can i get some pointers?

i dont even know if this is in civ3, it was in civ1. there is one advancement you make that opens up the map of the world so you can see everything. does this exist in civ3 and what is it? i cant figure it out. thought surely it would work after i did satellites, but no anyone know what im talking about?

neg, i have all the civ advancements completed and i cant even start the space shuttle. what the hell is the deal? i turned off space race, does that disable spaceship building completely? i have all the materials needed. i cant figure out how the hell to make any of the parts. nether on the city screen nor on the spaceship view. just says "no cities can produce this item". any ideas?

Yeah, if you disabled the space race option you can't build the space ship.

An advancment lets you see the whole map? I thought building the appolo program wonder just allowed you to see where all the cities are... been a while though... I am mostly recalling Civ II
