looks like a black widow to me... check the abdomen on the bottom of the spider to see if there are any red marks..
Last time there was a huge momma black widow hanging in the middle of my room on a huge ass web.

I agree with lirion. That's a standard, run of the mill jumping spider. They are cool. They "walk" sideways and are fun to watch. We had one (or at least seamed like one) that we kept around the house that we called Jack. We let him do his thing. Never once saw a mosquito or any other pest in the place. I've got one in my apt in AZ now and I just let him be. Figure he's better alive than dead.

Spiders are cool :)

Flying buzzing things that sting are not.

:D

My gf would probably go completely insane if she saw a spider like that. She freaks out when she sees a MOTH. As a result, I have to squish things (but in a way so that there aren't any guts stuck to the wall).

You wussy! Each stain on my wall represents a heroic battle involving me armed with a newspaper and jumping around swatting at various bugs.

Where in Chicago do you live? My wife would freak if she saw that spider. For some reason, spiders love to bit her.

I live in Chinatown area, just north of the Harold Ikes homes.

The spider was pretty funky looking, the front looked of it had kind of a blue-green tint to it, and the back end had some white markings, one of the more cool looking spiders I've seen in a while.
