Well I'm currently starting to save some $$$ to put torwards a big screen tv. Right now I am looking at the Mitsubishi 65" HD ready projection TV. From the research I have done I have figured that mitsubishi's are probably the best out there. What do you guys think about this TV and what other ones are good? I think the price is around $2500 for this one. My Goal is to save about $1000 - $1500 then buy one at Best Buy or something with the 2 year no interest type deal, so I will have to pay about $1000 in 2 years after putting what I can save torwards it.

On this subject, when is the price of the Plasma TV's going to drop to around $3000 or so for the 50" ones. Will this be happening within a few years or not till about 10 years down the road? Any ideas on this?

Sorry for the 20 question but appreciate input :)

find a refurbished big screen RCA from BestBuy - they have good financing options and you can get it out the door (tax included) for $1500

my buddy's is sweet, and I hear Plasma's and LCD's don't have as much lifetimes as the bulkier ones - we found the bulky models are impressively light

1. Mitsu's are a very good set. If you are looking to get one though, look at the WS-65613, not the 65313 you are looking at.
2. Mitsu usually has interest free financing going, so dont limit yourself to BB. They suck.
3. You can get a 50" plasma right now for ~$3k, but they suck. The prices of GOOD plasmas have not dropped. You are sacrificing resolution, contrast, and many other important features just to get a flat TV.
4. If you are not ready to buy right now, wait til this fall. I have seen the new model lineups from Sony and Toshiba. Both look very interesting, with the price of DLP dropping considerably.

Yep, I got a really good deal on a 48" JVC Projection HDTV (love the DVI) and, while bulky, I was also pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to move around.

Mitsubishi makes a good CRT RPTV. It's not quite as good as this generation's Pioneer Elite, but it is cheaper. Be sure you have reasonably good ambient light control, because big CRT's are not very bright. You also want to make sure you're sitting near straight on with the screen, not off to the side. DLP & LCD projection TV's have wider viewing angles and are much brighter, if your room isn't set up ideally.

We're still a ways off for a $3k 50". 50" are hovering around $5k right now, and probably won't drop to the $3k mark for another year or two at least.

WRONG. I suggest never buying a refurbished TV, especially something in this price range. You are spending too much money not to get one brand new and with full warranties in effect.

My suggestion? Stay away from Plasma's. They lose their brightness over the course of use (within a couple of years), and this is not good for a long-term investment. DLP's and LCD's are coming into their own now, with a lot of problems being worked out with both.

I just purchased an 52" Widescreen RCA D52W15 (about the cheapest you can get in RP HD-ready TVs), and am taking delivery in on Wednesday. This is what I could afford on my budget, but still a very nice TV in it's own right. Visit AVSForum.com, where there is an overly active community waiting to answer any question you have. And remember, no matter what, whichever TV you decide to get, someone out there will have something bad to say about it. Learn that, live with that, then love your TV. :D

There's a 55" Hitachi DLP at UECWeb for 2550 with stand and extra bulb. Would you order from UECWeb?

we used to sell the sampo, but we only ran that during the holidays. I can link you to the 42" hisense for under $2300, but I cant find a good link for the 50

Well, depending on when you buy, you might be able to find a clearance unit of a Samsung DLP, as they'll be totally revamping their line halfway through the year...the 46" and 56" will be pretty much the same, with the 61" getting the HD3 chip inside, and ontop of that, they'll be releasing those new "slim DLP" and "stand-top DLP"s that are going to be soooooo hot.

So basically, lurk around BB when the new units start coming in and see what you can find ;) :D

Yeah, I can find plenty of 42"s for cheap (Sams club was clearing out their daewoo 42" for $1700 or so. I bought my 42" Panasonic 42PWD6UY for $2100), but not the 50's.
