Big Screen or High Resolution pc gaming

For the voters, I assume your votes are for what your current setup is like. If you would also post what you think you would prefer, that would be great. I mean do you game on a 19" LCD because its all you had room for, or money. Or do you just prefer the small screen higher res.?

There something about PC FPS games on my 42" plasma that doesn't feel quite right so I stick to my 18" LCD for that.

Yeah i was afraid of something like that. I want to hook an HTPC up to my 37" LCD HDTV, I was thinking of just using my main rig, but that would mean i would have to do all my gaming on the TV, and for some things it would probablly be cool, but not sure for others.

I know this sounds crazy, but there are still some people using CRTs.

Also, I thought this was just a roundabout way of posting a console vs. PC gamer poll. I honestly didn't realize that a lot of people were using big-ass screens day-to-day with their PCs.

I guess I'm out of that particular loop.

1280x1024 is not high resolution. 1920x1200 is high resolution, and that's about the same as the HDTV. You are comparing "big screens" that are higher resolution than the monitor, and calling the monitor "high resolution".

I much prefer 1280x720 on a 32" LCD TV over a 1680x1050 20" LCD monitor.

My setup isn't on the list.

24" LCD at 1920x1200 resolution.

It seemed pretty huge when I got it, but not so much anymore. Don't get my wrong, I would hate to go back to my 19".

I could go for a 30" LCD in a year or two though. Right now I haven't got the video hardware to get a decent framerate in my games at that resolution.

Anything bigger than 30" on a desktop is too big IMO. If I have to turn my head to see one side of the screen to the other that's too much.

Just because of mouse / keyboard placement, I end up feeling more comfortable playing on my 1600x1200 20" rather than my 720p 102".

Gaming systems are quite good on the low res 102"

Yes I understand that 1280x1024 is not high res. and even less then 1920x1080. But 1280x1024 on a 17" monitor will still probably look sharper then 1920x1080 on some huge TV. I guess I should have specified more then just resolution. And I did put that as a minimum resolution with a + beside it, meaning anything over that.

CFster, yours would be option 3, since you use a resolution of greater then 1280x1024 and use a screen of greater then 20". That is why I put the pluses in there. I wanted to use those numbers as minimums or maximums like the screen size for option 4. But i full expect there are plenty of people out there with higher resolutions then 1280x1024, and large screen sizes. I am sure there is somebody out there gaming on a 30" computer LCD at some ungodly resolution. My options in the poll are just baselines.

I play my consoles at 1080i on my 52" screen, and my PC games at 1440x900. So I like both.

When I do game, its on my 22" Widescreen LCD @ 1680x1050. I really like widescreen for gaming, but need a better vid and sound card to really apreciate the monitor+speaker setup I have (I have logi z5300's; the Turtle Becah does OK, but I really want some crazy surround sound gaming effects).

1280*1024 is sweet, I can't imagine wanting anything more than that on my 19" LCD. There are so many things I would do before giving it more pixels - like antialiasing, higher res textures, more accurate curves and collisions and physics...

I thought you wrote blue screen versus high resolution, I was thinking to myself "what an odd question." To answer your question, I prefer using my 19" monitor most of the time, but I do have the plugs to my 53" hi-def tv that I use occasionally. My graphics card can't quite handle resolutions as high as 1920 by 1080, although hl2 runs really well at that resolution
