Big Race Murder in the UK finally has the murderers convicted.

There's a big race murder that happened in the UK some years ago, it's been a massive case over here and it's set some interesting precidents in UK law, some to do with the evidence used, but one to do with double jeopardy, which was overturned some time ago in the UK.

The murderes in this case were aquitted some years ago and have just been retried and are now convicted for the same crime for which they were aquitted.

Interesting.

Ya, its been on news everywhere... I fail to understand what's the big deal? is that the ONLY racial murder ever committed in UK?

It's quite rare, I think it's more of a big deal as they were originally found innocent and now they've been found guilty.

I thought that once you get tried and you are innocent, you cannot be retried again. Is this UK's half assed laws, or I am missing something.

LOL @ UK sentences.

Two men found guilty of the 1993 racist murder of Stephen Lawrence in south-east London have been jailed for life.

Gary Dobson will serve a minimum of 15 years and two months, and David Norris 14 years and three months.

14 years = life?

14 years = life?

Life sentences in the UK have a minimum term of however many years. So yes, they both have life sentences with a minimum term of 14 or 15 years. I'm sure that some people in America who get life terms get parolled before the end of their life sometimes No?

Life equals 25 years here normally. Should be the same in the UK I think

I agree, Life should mean Life, it would have been 30 years for this trial if it weren't for the following factors:

- Racially motivated murder wasn't a crime when they killed the kid, it was just murder
- They were under 18 at the time and so are being sentence as such.

All the time, but parole eligibility at 14 years is really, really weak.

THe UK was better when they were hanging murderers.

It's because they were under 18 and the fact that the crime was racially motivated didn't help much as "Racialy Motivated Murder" wasn't a specific crime then.

I'm not pro capital punishment but I can see the upsides.
