Big problems with Win2k and networking...

Yo all...
I have been running 2k flawlessly for 2 yrs now, using a 3Com USB NIC... had to lend it to someone, and tried to use another adapter. Linksys LNE100TX v4... Comp recognizes it, i install drivers, and whatnot... Restart, no internet access. Hub light is green on bottom (connected) but no blinking yellow (packet flow).
I switch to a Madge 8/16 Ringnode card... NO way in h@ll that works... not surprising
Get my package from a fellow AT'r with a 3Com 3c905-TX. Same problem as with the Linksys.

I've been through ipconfig, /release, /renew, /flushdns, /registerdns... seems my card isnt registering with dhcp although its turned on.

Also, my GF3, usb, Raid controller, SBLive!, and Network card are ALL on IRQ11.... Tried to force them via Bios onto other IRQ's, but no go.....

Any help?

Are you on cable Internet access? You probably have to restart the cable modem if that's the case.

Why a usb nic or am I missing something. Move the cards to different slots if you are having IRQ problems.

already did both... restarted cable modem and the router... and switched the cards so they wouldnt share IRQ's.

AGP and pci1 share, pci 2&3, PCI4&5, PCI6&usb/raid....

have agp, pci2, and pci 4....

Windows just seems to want them all to have IRQ 11.
::sigh:: brings back memories of win95

Windows 2000 always puts stuff on the same IRQ... I can't remember why it does it, or how it works though...

You're gonna have to describe your Win2K network configuration settings. There may be something set incorrectly there. Also, don't worry about the IRQ issues. Win2K has been out for, what, 3 years now? The IRQ sharing scheme that it (and WinXP) uses is proven to work and almost nobody has problems with it. Just accept that the IRQ sharing works -- IRQ problems on modern Win2K and WinXP systems are really a non-issue these days.

just have TCP/IP set up... everything on auto, just the way it was,,,,,

Boot into safe mode and remove all network adapters through device manager. Reboot and see if system finds NIC. If so, do ipconfig /all and see what it says. If not detected, try add/remove hardware to redetect. Make sure you get the latest driver specifically for the OS.
