i have this Abit IS7 mobo
i went and bought an Antec True 430w
it was all workin great

i noticed i didn't hook up the fan speed regulator i took the power supply to hook it up
and i noticed the ATX wasn't pluged in so i pushed it in
i turned the comp on and the LEDs on the mobo started flashing and the power supply started smoking 🙁

i noticed later that the ATX Wasn't pluged in (
What do i do now??
is the mobo messed up??
i need a new power supply?

Maybe I am not reading this right....

U installed a power supply and it was working. YOu shut it down, plugged in the fan regulator (what do u mean plug in? isn't that sensor built into the PS) then started it up and the power supply started to smoke?

Sounds like you forgot the 4-pin auxiliary power, then noticed it and plugged it in... but not in the correct orientation. :Q🙁 Note that the connector has a catch on one side, and the receptacle... yeah. I'd be surprised if your board survives that, but stranger stuff has happened.

Oh, I think I gotcha. This is a p4 board? it has that little 4 holes cube thingy. Yeah, u need to connect that right or u most likely fried stuff. Hopefully u didn't destroy everything in the expansion slots.

Get a new PS and hook it up. I would take every card out and just put in a cheap PCI video card to test to see what fried. If stuff it broken you can try to RMA it, just act like u have no clue what happened. Good Luck!

Uhhh... if the parts were damaged by user negligence, what you're suggesting would be fraud.

Could you clarify that? I'm ---> 😕

Not sure why the PSU has a fan monitoring thingie, but try not plugging it in...?
I imagine it's so you can get the RPM reading for the PSU fan (but why that'd be useful I don't know). If that's all it is, any mobo fan headers would do, unless maybe it's not starting due to a low RPM reading...

pulling straws there, but I want to know what happened.

ok i took that great Antec True 430w back and got a not as good SmartPower 300W
it is working now but i cleared the CMOS memory so i emailed Monarch Computers and i hope they can help me out with that
i dunno what else to tell ya about what happened

thx for the help guys 🙂
