I bought NHL 2K3 last weekend... Been playing it a lot but haven't played online too much yet (heard a lot of complaints about network dropouts and cheaters online). The game itself is grea though! But if I go online, most likely I'll be playing MechAssault..

Ya I couldnt even play NHL 2k3 last night as my opponents dropped right away? Pissed me off.

I thought that the scoring in the game was pretty random and that goalies were artificially made better to compensate for a poor defensive AI. That is, if I crash the net, make a centering pass right in the slot, and deflect it upstairs, the goalie makes a miraculous save. 2 minutes later I take a lame unscreened wrist shot from the top of the circle, the goalie lifts his arm too fast, looks like a douche, and the puck gently floats in.

Note that I've had the same complaint about EA games as well... poor defensive AI is counterbalanced by a ridiculous goalie

I dunno, maybe I'm just too used to EA games, but the defense seems pretty good in NHL2K3 ... The players on my own team will actually chase the puck, and keep their positions ... The opposing team's AI will usually poke check the puck away from me if I get too close, and stay with me.

In terms of saves, usually the only goals I can get consistently are good breakaways (only if I have it timed well), and perfectly setup onetimers ... I have been able to chip the puck in here and there, but in the 10 games or so I've played in my season maybe only 2 or 3 goals have been "weak" goals ... the rest I had to work for, and were fairly good setups. (I think this is pretty realistic) ... Compared to NHL 2003 though, I think that 2K3's gameplay is a lot better.
