I was up until 4 am (get up for work at 6:30, ugh) playing because the "Just gotta see what's next" factor is off the charts.

Unless Half-Life 2 totally lives up to the hype - which I don't doubt it will - this is a solid GOTY contender, at least on consoles.

I totally agree with you that KOTOR is a fantastic game. And, yes, HL2 looks to be a great game. I'm just not sure if I should get the PC or Xbox version. Oh, and I can't wait for Halo 2 either!

I just sold my GC and am in the market for an Xbox. My son wants to play games (esp HALO) while I want it for it's video features. If you did not already own an Xbox where would you buy it from and for how much? Where are the current best deals to be found? Should I look for an older unit or are the new units better (I plan to mod it in the future to play VCDs and Divx). Thanks for your help ...

EBGames has a deal where you can get a $30 GC by MIR.

Buy a refurb (for $149.99, refurbed by Microsoft), any Microsoft accessory (I got an extra controller), and any game ($39.99 or higher). Note that the controller in the refurbs is likely the larger controller, not the newer smaller one.

I went with a .refurbished Xbox from Overstock for $139.99. It has the 1.3 chipset in it so you shouldn't have any problems modding it. I've had no problems with the refurbished Xbox and I've had it for six months now, also, it looks brand new as does the Controller-S it came with. However, you could get a new Xbox at it's new retail price for $179.99 and get Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT 2002. As for finding any more current deals;

New Xbox from Buy.com - Free Shipping.
Ebgames.com has various bundles, some include free 2-day shipping.
Gamestop.com has various bundles, most include free 2-day shipping.

I'm sure there are other deals out there, I just checked the few sites that I check out on a regular basis for deals on games. Good luck.

Aperry and Natas, thanks for the advice. I DO NOT want to just jump into a purchase without being educated.

First, I hope all is well Tallgeese. We're all looking forward to a happy ending. This thread as saved my friends and I a fair bit of cash and was a daily 'must read' when I first got my Xbox.

I do not want to start a KOTOR discussion, this is one a-hole's opinion.

I do want readers to note that KOTOR is a Role Playing Game. While I have also stayed up late playing what is likely the best RPG game to date, I am disappointed with the combat portion. In combat you do not control the action directly, rather you "issue the main actions you want your character and party to take, and they perform them ... as though you were seeing an action sequence from a movie." This should appeal to planners and strategist, but will bore your average FPS fan. I personally rank KOTOR below Splinter Cell & Halo, but above Morrowind. (Morrowind has the 'live combat', but I spent way too much time selling loot to finish the game.) I suspect a keyboard will make it much easier/faster to control, and therefore might be better.

FYI - there is a 'Carth Bug' gamers should read up on and a few nice character creation guides by 'Sabermaster' at various sites

edit for spelling

I'm surprised no one posted this, but Ghost Recon: Island Thunder (aka GRIT) is on sale this week at Kmart for $29.99. One of the best games on Live.

Turok: Evolution is $9.99 at Fry's B&M and at outpost.com.

It's not a stinker, and it got pretty decent reviews (3.5/5, 7.6 and 72% in the reviews I read). It's a pretty fun game so far.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is $9.99 . If you bought it for $12.99 less than 2 weeks ago, you can get the difference back. I did this morning. No return lines at 9am. :p

I don't hold $10 games up to the same standards as $50 games, even though both of those originally sold for $50 last year. But those are pretty decent games regardless of price.

Finally, DOA3 is out in the "Platinum" edition (same game, different box). So it should be $19.99 everywhere now.

Pretty sure I've read that that, amongst a bunch of other titles is now a platinum hit, so it should be $20 everywhere soon.

I am still in the market for an Xbox system and the best price I have found is $203.95 for the system and DVD kit. Includes 2nd day shipping and (hopefully) no tax at ebgames.com. Anyone else found a better deal?

Well if you don't need the DVD Kit (which I've seen for FAR in the past), every retailer is selling the Xbox at $179.99. You could use a buy.com $10 off coupon and get it for $169.99 with no tax and free shipping. That and aparrently some Best Buys are selling Xbox's for $149.99, might be worth persuing.

I would wait a couple more months on the XBOX. They should be dropping in price soon with the holidays approaching. I would look for them to drop the price to $150 and maybe even bundle a game with it.
