BestBuy.com has Hitman 2 for $19.99 with free shipping. If you pick it up in-store, use the $5 off $19.99 coupon to pick it up for $14.99. You can also do the same with Tekken 4.

Thanks t26 for the deal!

So, is anyone going to actually update the thread, or can someone else take it over? The Gamecube and XBox threads get so much more traffic.

How many people have PM the OP to update?

PlayCentric.com has Oni for the PlayStation 2 for $11.76. Other retailers including EBGames.com is selling this game for $19.99, so save $7+ with this deal.

Thanks LoGiKaL for the deal info!

PS2: Oni - $11.76

Kingdom Hearts has been released as a Greatest Hit and is now 19.99, although I can't seem to find it anywhere. EBGames doesn't have the new version available at the moment but the pre-owned has dropped to 17.99(less with whichever deal they're running on pre-owned games-20% right now).

It should be $19.99 @ BestBuy too, so you can pick it up for $14.99 + tax with the $5 Gamer's Gift card coupon.

I know there's been a rumor of a possible PS2 price drop recently, but yesterday I was at Blockbuster to purchase the Finding Nemo rental card and the guy behind the counter asked if I ever rented games...I told him I didn't because they have too many PS2 games and not enough Gamecube games, then he told me that in a few weeks they are going to have PS2s for $99. I don't know if this is part of the price drop, or some type of special that Blockbuster is running, but just though I'd throw it out there.

Castlevania 39.99 at Costco

So anyone know if that blockbuster deal will be confirmed or not? My friend wants to get a ps2 but he might be getting it this week just for NFSU. He plans on getting it from CC with the network adapter should he wait or tell him to get it?

Thanks

I was at Electronics Boutique just this weekend ... and Dynasty Warriors 4 was going for 29.99 .... i didn't realize the low price then ... and i kick myself now for not buying it ... but it goes for around $45 everywhere else ... ...

Didn't the Sear's add for Black Friday show the PS2 Online Bundle Pack for $199? It looked like it came with the DVD Remote, controller (spare?), and 3 games (wonder if any were samplers). I'm sure it comes with the network adaptor as well. Wonder what games they were as well.

Is there much of a difference between controllers? KBTOYS has a whole bunch of different ones and some for REAL CHEAP. I don't want to 'get what I pay for' I want a GOOD one for CHEAP!! Any reviews out there??
They also have a couple different DVD Remote controls for cheap. Better to go for one or the other or doesn't matter?!
Also, what older (cheap NOW) games are a MUST have for PS2? We are starting from scratch, getting one for Xmas

geoffkin,
I'm also starting from scratch. Bought on mine at Sears on FnF night.
Some things I've learned or come across since:

1. I would recommend the Online Pack versus standard. Online comes with a $39.99 Network Adapter to play games online with other players (SOCOM, ATV2, etc).

2. I would recommend buying one that has a small yellow box on the bottom right corner. In the yellow box is a black "+" sign. These are the SCPH-50001 models that came out recently. Some of the differences between this and the older ones (like the SCPH-39001) is the 50001 has a quieter fan, a progressive scan DVD player versus standard DVD player, and it has a built in port (infrered?) for the remote where as the older ones require you to use one of the available connectors on the box.

3. I realize I need a memory card. Now the guy working at BB says you should buy Sony products. He says the memory cards of the off brand (cheaper ones) sometimes fry. He said the controller sometimes acts flaky. I'd like to ask around and get other opinions before taking his word.

If you dont mind, let me know what you find out about staring out with a PS2.

I only have concentrate on getting PS2 games and accessories. My girlfriend's Ex is buying the actual PS2 for the girls for Xmas. So hopefully it will be one of the new ones, I think he already bought it on layaway. I bet any memory card will work fine, the store clerk is trying to make you spend more $$$ buying SONY stuff. I'll post my findings once I've done more research, gotten more advice and such. ANY advice from anyone on here would be much appriecated! THANKS!

Unless 3rd party memory cards have drastically improved since the previous generation of consoles, then I would certainly spend the couple extra dollars and get a real Sony one. Unless you like your save data getting corrupted or disappearing for no reason.

There are reviews for various memory cards out there on the game/hardware sites, but in general third-party accessories and peripherals aren't as dependable as Sony's. Last Christmas I had two third party mini-controllers just simply not work out of the box.

I can't speak for the PS2, but I've had enough trouble with N64 third-party memory cards losing game saves to make me very wary of any third party memory cards. Enough to make the suggestion to my brother-in-law that he stick with Sony for PS2 memory cards when he got his system.

Check ign.com for some controller reviews.

I would recommend 1st party controllers in general, I've tried several 3rd party controllers for other systems and they just don't act right, like when I press right my character on screen will jerk to left first then right. For that reason I've been staying away from 3rd party controllers, both of my PS2 controllers are Sony.

However, I did get a "Microcon" for Gamecube (4 1st party controllers are just too much), and it's behaving nicely so far. "Microcon" controllers are made by MadCatz, there is one version for each of the 3 major systems, and they all have received pretty favorable reviews on ign. "Microcon" for PS2 is selling for $15 at BestBuy last time I was there. While I was there I put my hands on the "Chameleon" controller, and I have to say it feels great, very very comfortable. I dunno how it performs, but it's the most ergonomic one.

As for games, you can't really go wrong with the "Greatest Hit" titles (those with a red band on top of the cover), they are not new releases and are < $20.

Hope that helps.
