I'm planning on buying a ps2 but is it safe to get a refurbished ps2 to save a couple of bucks ? Do they break easily ? What has been done to the refurbished one ?

Can you put a note with the list of PS2 Greatest Hits for $19.99 most places?

You can get any of these PS2 Greatest Hits at Best Buy B&M for $14.99 if you buy a Gamer's Gift Card and use the $5 off coupon on the back. You can buy a Gamer's Gift Card packaged in a CD case for as much as you'd like to spend on it. They are usually located near all the console games and accessories. On the back of each one is a coupon for $5 off any game or accessory priced $19.99 or over.

Note, however, that it's kind of a pain for the register clerk to "charge up" the cards if you buy a bunch of them, and it's also a pain for them to redeem each one at the register. Be gentle and don't buy a bunch of cards charged with $0.25 each!

So this afternoon I call that store, and they say not unitl Saturday, call another store, and they say the same thing. CC always has the best game promotions, but they have to absolute worst availability of any store in history. I actually wrote them an e-mail about it, not to advertise the date if you aren't gonna have it in by then.

I usually have the same problems with CC but when GTA:VC was coming out and I was one of the few people that didn't pre-order, CC was the only place I actually found the game on launch day. The reason they had it in stock was because their shipments were late! The cashier also tipped me to the fact that BB was selling it for $39.99 and "prompted" me to inform her of that fact so I could get the pricematch.

I just got back from Target (Burbank, CA) and they had a "starter kit" which included a madcatz controller, 7ft extension cable, and a cleaning disk on clearence for $ 6.24. Good deal I think.

I was at Target today in Clovis, CA... The guy in the electronics dept was scanning the games looking for clearanced titles, so I stood and talked to him while he did it. He scanned Disney Golf at $7-something, so I grabbed the last one. LOL -- I felt bad because he said his wife would have liked it. I told him my four kids would also like it, so he gave it to me.

I say $7-something because I forgot what he told me when he scanned it. When I went to the front to pay for it, it scanned 0.00 and the clerk asked me if I knew how much it was. I just said $7.98 and he rang it up for that. It may actually be less than that. Sorry I don't have the specifics!

As always, with Target YMMV!

Good luck!

I just got NBA Live 2003 for $12.99 at Microcenter. It was in their latest ad. They didn't have many there, so hopefully everyone who wants one can get one.

I ended up removing more than I added this week, due to both weak deals and the fact that I'm missing a few ads this week (BB, Media Play). Help me fill in the blanks.

In the mean time, the deal of the week seems to be Wal-Mart, with the PS2 Network Adapter for $38.83 with EverQuest Online Adventures free!

Blockbuster has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale going on right now... I found Virtua Fighter 4 for $9.99, Wipeout Fusion for $9.99, and also a gamecube game (Smuggler's Run) for $9.99... so I got all three for $19.98 + tax!

Got my ZOE2 (Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner) for $39.99 at Fry's. Might be really hot, if you can use some coupons + PM at other stores. Here is the ad from San Jose Merc

After about 5 hrs of playing, I figure it's a pretty good game. The graphics are really nice, and there can be a huge number of enemies on screen at one time. Sometimes there is so much stuff on the screen, it becomes hard to figure out what is going on.

Updated for the latest deals. Greatest hits list has also been updated to include new additions Agent Under Fire and Myst III: Exile (which I'm SURE sold enough copies to truly be deemed a greatest hit. :p

I just picked up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 for $19.99 at KBToys B&M. It was in the game case alongside a bunch of Greatest Hits titles, so at first I thought someone had messed up when they were putting stickers on the games, or had for some reason put the PC version's price on it, but at the register it rang up as the PS2 version at that price.

Hmm...after looking around a bit more, this could have something to do with their current in-store PS2 console promotion:

KBToys Video Game Specials

You get a free game when you buy a PS2 out of the following list:

? Rygar: The Legendary Adventure
? Jet X20
? Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
? The Mark of Kri
? Red Faction II
? or Ninja Assault.

Someone mentioned that they saw Red Faction II at a KBToys B&M for $19.99 which makes me wonder if they've reduced the prices of all of these games in-store. Also, the box they show for Ninja Assault on the link is the Guncon2 combo box. The game is supposed to suck, but $20 would be a good deal on a Guncon2.

Boy this thread is dead compared to the others. Is everyone with a PS2 bored with it now and spending all their time playing Xbox and GC games? =)

Anyway, the Ninja Assault at KBToys B&M is the Guncon2 version and is only $19.99! (This is generally $50-60 most places). Picked one up to go with the one I got with Time Crisis II. The game really isn't all that bad, especially at that price. Now I just need to get someone I know to get the game so we can play linked instead of split screen, just like the arcade...

Also, ebgames has a few games for $9.99, online and in the stores:

The Mark of Kri
Red Faction
State of Emergency
Mad Maestro!
WipEout Fusion

CaptainPete, I couldn't agree with you more. Freakrck is slackin'! Anyways, I'm sure most of you know about the deal at Toys 'R Us, but I'll recap it since it was so good.

Toys 'R Us has a bundle including a new PS2, Xenosaga Episode 1 & Dragonball Z: Bodokai, and a crappy 2nd turbo controller all for $250. Finally, a bundle with valuble games! Make sure you get gift receipts so you'll be able to return what you don't want. Pretty much it breaks down the prices as the PS2=$157, games = $39 each, & controller = $15

Wow. I was just going to post that I saw Mark of Kri at BB for $19.99 until I saw this post. The only problem is that if I buy from ebgames I have to pay shipping which pretty much makes it the same price as BB when you use the $5 gift card coupon. You said that this applies to the Electronics Boutique B&Ms as well. Has anyone verified this? If so, I'll head over there after work.

I haven't played Mark of Kri but I have heard it is excellent.

I was just at my local EB last night and all of games I mentioned were $9.99. It just happened recently; even the guy behind the counter didn't know that they had dropped in price. I also picked up Guilty Gear X (the first one) for $19.99 there. It's only listed as available pre-owned on their website (for $29.99! Sheesh!), but both the stores around here had it new.

I didn't mean to call freakrck a slacker...we're all slackers. He's only really a slacker if the main list isn't updated regularly, but he needs help from us to find the deals. =) There's got to be just as many good deals out there for the PS2 as there are for the cube and xbox, but there definetely aren't as many posts here (ok, the other threads are much more chatty than this one, but deals do seem to get posted quicker).

Here's one for an update to the main list: overstock upped their price on their refurb PS2 to $184.99. Hell, you could have done better than that with the 10% off BB coupon last week. They do have a `Best Price Guarantee', so you could get it there and then `pricematch' EB ($169.99) or even compgeeks ($144.95), but they only give you store credit. =(
