These may be hard because they were popular in Korea, not necessarily in US (or never released).

Game A:

1. It's a vertical scrolling shoot'em up (similar to Raiden).

2. Instead of planes, you pilot this bio-organic looking plane shaped like Manta Rays or Sun Fish. Player 1 is red and player 2 is blue.

3. The art style of this game consists of bio-organic enemies. You fight masssive bugs, cockroaches, carnivorous plants, etc.

4. The unmistakable style of the game is their unique power-up system. You collect these tokens with letters (S or B or P, etc). The tokens dangle behind your ship like a tail. They shake around and get longer and longer as you collect them. When you press B, you use one of them. The effect depends on the letter of the token used- B is a big screen-wiping nuke, C releases 12 homing missiles, F gives you a big flame pillar in front of your ship that wipes left and right, killing everything in its path for 5 seconds. When you play 2 players, you can intercept and steal each other's tokens dangling after you.

5. The game was probably released in 87'-93', possibly by Taito or Data East, the prime makers of shooters back then. The game was a big hit- very graphic and memorable music.

I actually found it on my MAME 5 years ago~ But I have forgotten the name of it again.

Game B: (This is the BIG one)

1. Similar to Game A, it's a vertical shooter, 87'-93'.

2. The art feels like steam punk. You pilot these medieval flying planes.

3. I don't remember the power ups well, but they shot black grape shots, a lot of them at times.

4. There's a recurring enemy character. His avatar would always pop up before bosses, say few lines, then laugh at you. I remember the 'MWAHAHA' laughter very well which is shown at every level. He looked something like a classic rich villain- monocle, top hat, and with a thin villain mustache. I may be imagining his exact look, but the avatar bit and the laughter is very real.

5. I remember game looking very busy with lots of bullets and explosions. Probably more towards 89'-93'.

THIS game, I have NEVER found it again. I would love to play it.

Sorry for editing my post.

Game B was a mix of two games into one. The time travel part is the game called Sky Soldiers.

But I still haven't found the other game with the villain's avatar popping up and laughing. And you shot black grape shots.

The games likes Time Pilot are way too old (1982). These two have fancy colorful graphics, animations, nice sound and music. 87'-93'~.

Zeze, are you an Ikaruga fan?

I'm a big fan of 2D shooters of 87'-93'~. This was also the era when the genre was at its peak.

Not a big fan of shooters afterwards, especially ones tried with 3D.

2nd game sounds like it could be Sinstar, it's not exactly how you described it. But I know there are old game I had vivid memories of that were different when I found them again.

I hope you at least looked it up before dismissing it. Treasure made it and they were gods of shooters and 2D eras.

Many years ago I imported the original Sin & Punishment on my N64. Treasure is awesome.
