big headache, simple fix (i hope)

i accidentally removed the desktop icon from my quick launch bar, and cant for the life of me, track it down - i am offering a reward for its whereabouts

I think this is what you are looking for:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
Hope it works

win2k:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Here should be the folder where your desktop icon is.

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Hope that helps. 🙂

thans all, i looked, but all thats there is the icons that are still on the quick launch - what happened was i accidentally dragged it off the bar and it disappeared

what quick launch bar is a bar which represents a folder.

the buttons represent the contents of the folder, which by default are shortcuts to some commonly used programs. if you were to put a "real file" such as a plain text document, that document would appear in the bar as well.

what you need to do is create a new shortcut of internet explorer in that folder which can be done by dragging the original EXE or if you have it on your desktop, that icon, to the folder. OR you can drag it to the quick launch bar itself.

by dragging the icon off the bar, you pretty much removed the icon from the folder, thus from the bar.

it is a simple fix =)

Hey maddoggmotorsports,
The "Show Desktop" is a "Windows Explorer command"
Whatever that is?
I could e-mail you my "Show Desktop".
It's shows as a 1kb file.
Then you could place it back in that folder
and it would show back up on the quick-launch bar.
I'm using Win98se.

Open Notepad - type this in

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

save it as show desktop.scf in the Quick Launch directory.

Done
