Big difference between idle/load temps normal?

I have an athlon mobile 2600+ overclocked to 217x11.5 (about 2.5Ghz), with an ALX-800 and Panaflo U1A. I've noticed reading through a lot of other threads that in general idle and load temperatures might only differ by about 5C. However monitoring my temps with MBM5, I've noticed that when not doing anything at all, the temp can drop to 38C or lower, when using the computer to surf the web, download, listen to MP3's it might rise to about 44C, and I remember seeing 49C when running prime95. Is this normal?

I go from 42C idle to 48C load on my 35w mobile. What HSF are you using? 11C difference seems a little high, but definitely not unreasonable.

ALX-800 with Panaflo u1a, I think it's around 47cfm. I used the thermal paste that came with the heatsink, but I followed the instructions and used a decent amount (definitely more than the half grain of rice size that people say to use with arctic silver because I figured that was just for arctic silver). I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Hey, man, you're running 2.5ghz with an all-aluminum heatsink. I would think that you'd have higher temps than what you have. Those temps aren't bad at all-- I get up to 43C with a Thermalright SLK-900a (all copper) and a 92mm Tornado fan (at full speed, 119 cfm!), when running the Prime95 Torture Test.

Well, I just started overclocking an old xp 1700+, and it idles around 40-41 and gets up to 49 when doing a prime95 stress test. This is using an AX-7, I think, and an 80mm panaflo fan. It seems pretty normal to me.

When I was on air I'd go from 2~3C above ambient at idle to 12~13C above ambient at load. To tell the truth on water my idle temps are a tad higher(heat from pump), and load temps are about the same as they were. Difference is the only thing I hear from my machine any more is the occasional optical drive spinning up, and a few clicks from my HDDs.

Hmm... my CPU temp is never close to ambient (case) temps, even when idle. Right now at 40C CPU and 27C case. I'm guessing it's because I have a Panaflo on my heatsink. Just put on some AS5 today, hopefully temps will drop a bit more in a week or so.

My Athlon 1800+ @ stock speeds while just surfing the net (3-4 pages open) can be 28 degrees celcius one day and 40 degrees celcius the next. but yet I have never had a problem with my CPU.
