bought a compaq 2100 BTO last year...always had the factory installed os on it...battery life was about 30 minutes on stock battery and less than an hour on the valance external power...

last weekend, I just did a fresh install of XP PRO only and then reloaded all the drivers etc...

now the stock battery lasts nearly 2 hours and the valance power supply lasts over three...is there something in the factory installed os that would drain the battery like that?

prior to the os install, the CPU usage was pretty light (under 3% usually)...power setting is always set to laptop...and I always have max brighntess on the display...just wondering....

There was probably more things running in the background than you think. After reinstalling Windows on my Dell (about a month after I got it), it ran much, much quicker.

How does this work?

I just ordered a T41 and haven't gotten it yet (it comes with xin xp pro). I have one copy of winxp pro for my desktop. Can I take my winxp pro CD and install it using the key that comes with the IBM? Is that allowed by the license? I don't want to buy another copy. Does the t41 come with a xp pro key or is it all hidden in teh restore process?

Thanks

so I can just use that key and my old xp pro cd? Thanks I didn't realize that. Hoping my T41 comes by the end of the week!

Seeing as how nobody really told u what u wanted to know i will help out a bit. Microsoft says that you may reinstall XP 3 times and that is all. You will need to call MS techsupport for an override but yes you can do it. Just tell them you are formating your old computer and need to reinstall the OS.
