UHOH.

just found an issue with the dodge.

why is it not dualie?

i cant seem to spec out a Diesel/dualie combo... LB doesnt seem to be available on the Cummins engine

the only way i can get a dualie is with the V8 engine in it....

I thought all 3500 Dodges were duallies.

F-350

I have one and may be biased but I love the thing (doesn't have 5th wheel though).

It's basically an international diesel.

If for some reason thats not enough power I believe it's either an 8.1 or an 8.3L diesel they offer in the f-650 and higher. THose are rare though, they normally end up being big rig tow trucks.

Edit: oh and if I remember right, mine has a 100,000 mile warrenty on the engine. but you shouldn't have to worry about warrenty with many diesels. Truck normally falls apart before the egine as long as you change the oil, all 4 gallons of it, at least in the fords.

compare

does that work? if so thats the four trucks he is considering all in a comparison.

MIKE
interesting....makes the Ram look like the best choice.
That's because the Chevy and the Ford in this comparison have gasoline engines. There isn't even an option to get Ford's 6.0 Litre Diesel V8 listed in the comparison.

Hence my question.
Why the hell does he want a dualie.
Theres a big big BIG difference between NEED a dualies and WANT a dualie.
It sounds like this guy NEEDS a dualie, and I seriously doubt thats the case. I could be wrong, but too many times people let thier egos rule. And singles are generally preferable if you can get by with it over dualies.

Dodge Cummings or Chevy Duramax

Them ford powerless strokes are nothing but trouble, and transmissions are more trouble

The 7.3 powerstroke hasn't been used in years, with the exception of the used trucks that a running fine with more miles than you will ever see on a gas engine.

F350, of course.

i have an F250 (this is my second one) with the powerstroke
that we use for 5-th wheel trailer pulling.
i'd have no qualms about getting another or recommending heavy duty Ford trucks.

Sierra 3500 SLE has an allison transmission and a duramax diesel.

both are HIGHLY regarded.

but will cost about 38 grand if you get a 4dr 4wd extended cab with diesel, tranny, camper style mirrors, towing package, cruise control and fifth wheel package.

Ford F-350 XL (4wd, 4dr) will set you back about 35 for

extended cab XL, with 6.0 l v8 diesel, 5 speed, ac, cruise/tilt, tow command, class V hitch, heavy service suspension, telescoping mirrors

Ram 3500 ST will set you back about 35 for

quad cab (no crew available), 5.9 L V6 Turbo Diesel, AM/FM radio, folding trailer mirrors, speed control, trailering group, full size spare (i cant believe some of those are options)

im pretty sure i picked the same base options for both im not sure on Ford, or Dodge and dodge you cant get a extended cab.

now as to which i would pick....

the GMC is proven, but slightly more expensive. Ford is all new truck (engine is the same, tranny the same im pretty sure) and the Ford also has 2500 cash back. i didnt notice any for the GMC

the dodge, im not sure about it has a much smaller engine, its a V6, compared to V8.
so pick between Ford, and GMC.

a Chevy, with the same options as the GMC runs about the same price. 38 grand.

so you really have Chevy, GMC, Ford as options.

up to him which he likes best.

MIKE

The RAM is an I-6, not a V6, and it makes more torque than any of the other trucks if you get the high output diesel... 610 ft lbs to be exact. the I-6 is an incredible motor from Cummins.

Thats what I was thinking. A v6 I thought they had the cummins I6. I would get the dodge with the I6 cummins engine and get the Banks power pack and add on an extra 300 horses and 500 ft pounds of torque. Do 0-60 in under 5 seconds in a heavy A$$ 4x4 pick up truck :)

Thats a great idea... too bad it can't/won't happen.

Oh yes, and drop the dualies. I'm not a fan of those for the most part.

Dualies are pure sexxors and you know it!!11

On the road yes. But get into snow or mud and you end up with an extra set of wheels cutting a track. Hence, they dont track well. If all your doing is pulling on the highway definately, but in my case I'm not always pavement bound so for me I'll take the slightly less towing capacity over better off road handling.
