So I'm a little perplexed. Have an e6400, asus p5b-e, and tuniq tower in the rig. Ran it o/c to 3.2 for about three months, always ran at about 35-36 degrees. During this time, case was on the floor next to my old computer desk.

Bought a new computer desk with a CPU cabinet, so the case is now housed within the cabinet, with the only air escape through the rear. Prior to putting it in the cabinet, partially due to fear of heat, I brought all the settings back to stock...

At stock, in the cabinet, it's running at 45 - 47 degrees, which is outrageous (Used to run at 28 degrees stock before I ever o/c'd it).

Can putting the computer in the cabinet be responsible for a 17 degree C jump in temperature?

Yep, that's correct. If you want to see some really high temps, just seal up the rear of the cabinet, also.;)

There was a discussion on xtremesystems where most people were of the opinion that OC's get old...

Like my CPU is BARELY holding on to it's OC now... THe thought of having to scale it down some is depressing. This is EVEN AFTER cleaning everything meticulously and all. Temps are about 12C* hotter than they used to be idle. Was 45*C now is 57*C idle :(

Yup, it's all about the cabinet. Cut a hole in the bottom near the front, or leave the door open.
