I think I have found a good solution for launching to windows 98, but alas, I dont have windows 98 to install to test it😱

If I could find my .zip of the win98 install directory I made before I broke my 98 cd it would help...I think I deleted it thinking I would never need windows 98 again, but I cant remember. I would have you test it, but it is a theory of something I read, and I dont know exactly how to implement it yet, so it would be try, recompile, try, recompile, which would require it to be where I can touch it😱 One nice thing though, trying code in different enviroments has gotten much nicer since getting VMWare. I can build a domain of 5 pcs or so on one machine and test them all from there😀

Welp, after just 24 hours of crunching my 23 work machines (19 P4 2.0GHz machines and 4 other lesser boxes) did a lovely 107 WUs. Not bad for a Sunday's work. 🙂

It's great to be back. 😀

:Q

😎

Problem- I set Flexinstaller to run STCLI only from 18:00 to 8:00 and it's still running at 8:20AM. Maybe I goofed the ending time in the install?

Orangekid's stats show that I did 118 WUs yesterday total 🙂

It's so easy I don't see any reason I wouldn't roll it out on my entire work fleet from 5:30PM to 8AM 🙂

How do you set it up to run only in the evenings? Scheduled task?
This might help get SETI running at work again.

I've been running it 24/7 on all my computers for now since I haven't got an answer why the time of day function on Flexinstaller didn't work. I haven't had any complaints though and haven't had time to work on it, so I'll just continue the nice 120 WU/day output until I get an answer and then have time/feel like messing with it 🙂

I had problems with using the Flexinstaller scheduling setup, so I just went into the Win2K scheduler, and created 2 scheduled jobs, the first to start the STCLI service at 5:30pm M,T,W,TH,F and the second to stop the STCLI service at 6:30am.

I used the NET START STCLI and NET STOP STCLI as the command to run in the schedule job. I also used an admin account to run the scheduled jobs.

😀

So the scheduling is tied to the Flexinstaller.
Is there an easy way to schedule SETI on a Win XP Pro? This is a single computer, not a network of them.

And it's great to have you back active in the forum and producing so many WU's! 😀

To start SETI, if you are talking about scheduling just the SETI CLI app, I would create a shortcut and set the parameters (run minimized, etc.). Then go into Settings, Control Panel, Scheduled Tasks, and create a scheduled job for the days/times you want it to start, and have it execute the SETI program.

Not sure how to stop it other than manually, or IIRC, there are advanced settings in the scheduled job you can set to stop the task if it has been running for X number of hours.

The Flexinstaller was setup to install SETI as a service in 1 or many PCs, and doesn't have to be part of the network. That way, stopping and starting the STCLI service is pretty straight forward. 🙂

It is a bit of a pain to remove though, since the installer doesn't have an uninstall.

😀

Thanks for the info Ray 🙂

Umm... the poop kinda hit the fan today at work so i'm just gunna let things cool down for awhile.

The guy who used that computer asked me not to run SETI for a little while about a month ago as it was causing a bit of a slowdown with the 3D CAD program they used.
When i saw this thread that gave me an idea, as he leaves it run(idle) overnight.
After today's meltdown, i don't want to be involved with any percieved problem there.

I guess i'll have to learn how to build my own computers... so i can assimilate them 😀
