OK, I recently brought a 2nd car up to school, it was a new purchase of mine. I threw my plates from my first car on it to drive it until I had time to make it to the registry. Well, the timing belt ended up breaking on me for some reason, so it was stranded in a parking lot. I took the plates off and started driving the 1st car around. Well, while the plates were off the other car, the cops noticed it sitting in a parking lot by itself, so they had it towed. I was *planning* on having AAA tow it out of the parking lot this week so I can bring it to a friend's shop about 35 miles away (where I'm from). Now, the car is towed, it doesnt' run, and I need to get it home by tomorrow so I don't end up paying so much extra money for storage :( Now, my friend says that AAA won't tow an unregistered car, or one that's been towed to a location due to a legal violation... is this true??

What can I do to get my car home by tomorrow for cheap?? Please help guys, I got so much going on in my life now, I feel like I'm gonna snap...any help is GREATLY appreciated - thanks...

When the cops towed the car, they likely had it taken to an impound yard, because they thought it was abandoned.

To get your car back, you'll have to pay the impound fee (around here it's ~$100.00), and then throw the plates back onto the car, so AAA will tow it.

Sorry about your luck.

well it's not impounded, I talked to the cop that towed it and it's at a local towing place.

AAA is for emergency roadside assistance only I am pretty sure, been using them for 20 years with only 3 tows, lmao. I find it really hard to imagine that you were actually switching plates... Not really a good idea in the first place.

You'll still have to pay for the tow, and likely a "holding fee" as well. :(
