Big Bear Mountain question

I'm going to Big Bear this week. I'm going in a Ford Expedition and I will be coming from the L.A. area.

My question is if whether I will need chains or not? Or what is the policy on that. I don't want to get a ticket
for not having any. I know when I get on highway 18 I might need them, and the caltrans site doesn't say
anything about needing them, so for anyone who has ever gone there do you absolutely need chains,
or only when the conditions are bad??

thanks

Isn't the Expedition a 4wD car? If so, you don't need chains. Only 2wd cars need chains.

The above is assuming that it is snowing, which it hasn't been.

Don't worry about it. Nobody is going to give you a ticket.

Edit: I used to go up there in the winter all the time in my Bronco. The 2wd cars had to put on chains but 4wd's were allowed to pass through without them.

if it's 4x4, don't worry about it. If it's 2x4 bring them in case. There was chain control up 330 just a couple nights ago, so better to be safe than sorry.
