Well... the concept actually existed prior to it being shown in the sitcom. 😉

Perhaps not with the shirt, however.
 
That's not the future. Those things have been around for years. (mostly prototypes, because they're stupid and nobody wants them except smug, self-important execs.)

As for robots wearing clothes, that's how you anthropomorphize them.

Yup. Didn't we see real life avatars in Demolition Man, in a scene where Stallone walks in on a meeting and everyone at the table except the speaker is represented by an LCD mounted on a chair? That movie came out awhile ago. I wouldn't be surprised if earlier examples exist too.
