Modern family I get. But Better Off Ted? C'mon man. That's like saying that "According to Jim" or anything else John Belushi is in is funny.

Psssst, John Belushi has been dead for a long time.

If you want to discuss a show that isn't funny, lets talk about "How I Met Your Mother," which is the most contrived, unoriginal piece of over hyped garbage on TV.

False.

False.

Ex-wife keeps trying to convince me to watch How I Met Your Mother, but I'm not convinced. I like Jason Siegel from Freaks & Geeks and his movies, but the ads I've seen do noting for me. :hmm:

Laugh tracks are the devil. Whether it's canned or amped from the audience, it's puts a stink on an otherwise great show.

(I still watch and enjoy, and I hate most TV)

The show is pretty funny, but there are a decent number of poor episodes. I like it but I wish it was more consistent.

How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory suffer from the same issue of having highs and lows in how funny episodes may be. When it comes to TBBT, Sheldon is hands down the best character on the show. You're supposed to enjoy how he's so eccentric in what he does and has absolutely no understanding of "proper human interaction" in that everything he does is pretty much straight by the book.

When it comes to HIMYM, it can really depend on what makes an episode. I've seen some rather great ones with Barney.

Better off Ted was dull and boring... I gave it two episodes, but I just couldn't keep watching it.

Modern Family is better than all of them :p.

"Community" is about 3x better, and no laugh track or recorded studio audience required.

Or for action geekiness, "Chuck".

I tried to watch "Big Bang Theory" a couple of times, but it's just unpleasantly unfunny.

If you ever decide to watch it, start from the beginning.

the whole "telling the story of how the guy met his wife" shtick is kinda lame/distracting, but the overall show is damned funny.

I can't stand Chuck. My roommates love it and I just don't get it. It's not funny and the 'spy' part of it is terrible and corny. They have hot girls on it, but the show overall is so bad that it's not enough.

Sheldon Cooper is possibly my favorite sitcom character of all time. Unfortunately, the rest of the characters aren't nearly as good. It is, however, the only current sitcom I make sure to catch each week.

I met a guy last week who's pretty much Sheldon to a T except that he's a lawyer not an engineer (well, researcher with a law degree at any rate since he can't interact with the general public)

he was kinda good looking (well, average but skinny + tall bumps him up a point or two) and I'm pretty sure he was gay even if he didn't realize it, but omfg 15 minutes and I was done with him.

:hmm:

What makes you think he could be gay without knowing it?

I laughed... A lot. I haven't even seen that show. Seems to me that the writers are actually creative.

I have tried to watch this show so many times because all my friends watch it and love it. I just can't stand how fake it is. Its like they take the stereotype and twist it so far out of reality that it's not even funny and the jokes try way too hard to be overly geeky.

It just goes to show that, even among friends, taste can vary greatly. I think 30 Rock is the funniest show on television but I am the only person in my group of friends that watches it.

I still have no idea how that show stays on television.

Yeah, it has gone way down hill the last couple seasons. The two good reasons to watch left when Candy was written off the show. Dumb as a rock, but damn she was nice to look at.
