Why would you hate it? For watching live sports its a great way to see A LOT of stuff you would never see on another channel, or is blacked out in your area. I've seen dozens of soccer, baseball, wrestling, and even track and field that would hardly ever get air time on on any of the ESPN's or even Fox Regional sports channels. If this would have been out when I was playing sports in college, I would have been stoked.

The non sports programming is usually done by each school's Broadcast Journalism depts, so its a good way for the students to get some practice at a real broadcasting beyond the typical campus closed circuit network that no one watches.

I hate the B10N for the same reason I hate the NFL Network. They take away games that may have otherwise been available locally and put them on "pay for" content providers. And not every provider offers the channels. And the ones that do offer it might not offer it on a base package and you have to pay more for it.

So basically it's nothing more than a way to milk more money out of fans/viewers.

I'm assuming you're from outside the BTN footprint or else you would have it on basic cable.
I love it now, get to see tons of college basketball games that would otherwise not be broadcast on espn or cbs.

I guess if you have a local provider that is outside the midwest, then ya, you'd probably have to pay for it. But thats the same for any regional channel.

I have had it for free with DirectTV, Comcast, AT&T Uverse, and now Brighthouse.

EDIT:

NFL network has always been free for me too. WTH you must have shitty cable company.

I keep hearing something along these lines... does the Texas State legislature/Governor have control/veto power over UT & A&M's athletic depts?

in addition to the formal power over funding, rick perry has been governor here since dub became president om 2001 and so has appointed all the regents.

the reason baylor is in the big 12 is because then governor anne richards was a baylor grad. she told UT and A&M that baylor had to go too when the SWC broke up.

although... perry has been so busy trying to run A&M into the ground that maybe he'll ok it anyway. perry is an aggie so i'm not certain why he's trying to run A&M into the ground. i guess he thinks he's helping.

Come to think of it, this is complete BS. BigTen network has ALWAYS been the last resort for showing a game (least amount of viewers). Even local stations get preference. If a game is only on the BTN, it is because it otherwise would not have been broadcast in your area AT ALL.

And if your in an area that you have to pay extra for BTN, then your are obviously not local to the BigTen schools, therefore why would a big ten game be on your local channels? Sorry, calling BS on this one.

IIRC, when UT and A&M wanted to go to the Big 8/12, she said fine, but take Baylor and Tech with you. TCU might've been a better choice than Baylor though, but yeah, Anne was a Baylor grad so that wasn't going to happen.

As for Perry running A&M into the ground, well, he's a politician, what do you expect? ;)

I imagine the Big 12 would easily match any offer the Big 10 would put up.

Notre Dame still makes the most sense for the Big 10 but it won't ever happen because of the NBC contract.

Notre Dame will never happen because their academics will never match up.

thats what has gotten them voted against 3 times so far.

same with Mizzou. while they would be a good match for BB/FB, they do not have the academics to match up.

Texas does, and with even distro, they would make hella bank compared to what they are now.

I agree. Any decent game is on my locals for Illinois, BTN gets a few, but they are lower tier away games, that no one else wants to pick up. Or some random IOWA v Indiana game I wasnt getting anyways

Umm wut? Where are you getting your info? Notre Dame turned down a BigTen invite in 1999, not vice versa. And ND academics are known for being quite good. Maybe not Ivy League good, but better than 90% of the colleges out there.

Notre Dame's academics are fine. Mizzou's academics would be the lowest in the Big Ten by a small margin, but it is a great research institution. They would fit in fine.

True, and ND lacks the balls to compete in a real conference. They'd rather beat up on sub-par teams like the Army and Navy every year (and lose to them, most recently) and get a bowl game every year for winning 6 games than have to play a tougher schedule where they might only win 3 games. What about Cincy?

Wrong, ND is the one that turned down the Big 10, twice I believe - see my post above for reasons I think why. To ND's credit though, their academics are far superior to most college programs, maybe with the exception of the Ivy League and Stanford. It's sad to think the vast majority of college football players will never play at the professional level, but fail to realize until it's too late that the 4 years they spent doing some broke major was pointless in terms of getting a real job.

plus cincy has no tradition in football and won't sell a single additional cable network on the BTN.

Yeah I could see that, they only recently got "good" and now ND stole Kelly. I was more thinking that in terms of geographic location they fit the bill but wasn't thinking academics, etc.

the geographic requirement of the big 10 is a state they don't already have a presence in. so cincy doesn't even fit that. the only school in their current footprint that really want is ND.

looking at how spread out CUSA is i don't think travel is all that much of an issue. of course, with the exception of rice, CUSA isn't exactly on the academic forefront, so the professors may not have as much sway with students missing big chunks of class. UTEP is practically 1000 miles from anyone else in the conference.
