This is from a Mayor

I guess my first question is "What was he being paid to do as mayor?"

Of course, he was living off the government and taxpayers too - but that doesn’t count. With both he and his wife unemployed, they get to demonstrate to Colorado City how to live without government assistance.

Oh, and notice that in his second rant, of course he’s the victim.

It is pretty funny to see the Texans who thought it was fun to dunk on California for having power problems now pleading for help as they have far, far worse ones. At this point though it’s rapidly getting less funny because people are in serious danger - cold like this can kill you and lack of water is no joke.

I agree, one can only hope texans will rember this longer than the last disaster then so easily forgot, and maybe not think other parts of the country struggling thru tough times is their comuppins.

The odds of that seem pretty low, haha.

Texas is bizarrely proud of itself for no reason I can identify. Like, Texas seems like a perfectly fine state, but it’s not special. Want diversity and great natural beauty? California is better. Want power and influence? That’s New York. Texas is the ‘I’m pretty good’ state with an inferiority complex.

I’m sure they will find a way to blame California for Texas’s power problems.
No joke, I expect them to say that since a bunch of Californians moved there they somehow caused it.
It'd be perfectly in-line with the rest of their playbook. Projection, deflection, obfuscation, etc.

When it comes to pointing to/at others, rethuglicons have the most practiced and experienced fingers in the cosmos.

Is it even possible to help? My understanding is all their power sources are frozen up and they can't tap into other sources outside the state because their grid is separate and apparently on a different frequency to keep it separate. About all I can think one could do is ship them gas and generators and wait for it to warm up. And the generators wouldn't amount to a hill of beans in the end.

There's those little portable propane heaters that sound sketchy as hell but I bet Hank Hill is fresh out of those by now.

Some of the data centers are not doing well. Just had to deal some major data relocation. This is going to bite texas in the ass. Companies are going to think twice. Toyota NA HQ has been dark when I drove past.

I agree, there's not much way the rest of the country can help. If they were on the grid with the rest of us they wouldn't be having this problem as shown by El Paso. They aren't though, so it's up to them to fix the problem of their own creation.

I imagine this is why they are furiously attempting to blame wind power, because otherwise they would have to confront the fact that Texas is facing this catastrophe purely due to their own dumb decisions.

Texas' power grid apparently can't handle 35 degrees either now. Still have had rolling blackouts this morning despite the temperature not being even freezing. What a shithole state this is. My entire city has been shut down three days now because of our dogshit power grid. A friend who manages a very large grocery store here had to throw out every single perishable item because Texas has a fucking piece of shit power grid that can't handle slightly cold temperatures. I can't imagine how many homeowners, business owners, and commercial landlords are going to have extensive damage from busted water pipes when they couldn't turn the heat on for 12-72 hours. Fuck this state.

I once watched this history show about the revolutionary war. It had a bunch of letters from British soldiers written as they marched through the wilderness of NY. This one guy was going on and on about the muggy oppressive heat, the gigantic insects devouring them and the constant swamps. I'm sure it sucked and it does get buggy and muggy up here during the summer but I couldn't help but laugh since he made it sound like he was in the Amazon rainforest.
You have to remember how mild the British ecosystem is though.
Rarely gets much below freezing, rarely gets above the high 20s centigrade. No dangerous animals, not really many insects that'll bite you. No real dramatic natural events (No hurricanes, tornadoes, giant hail, earthquakes, tidal waves, forest fires...)
If that guy hadn't left Britain before I can totally see him being unhappy with unfriendly nature!
I does make you wonder why us Brits talk about the weather so much when we don't really get any and how and why we bothered colonising half the world when we are uncomfortable in most of it!

Even in a mythical middle ages we were deeply upset when it got just below zero! That's how ingrained slightly inclement weather is in our psychology!

You could run a massive extension lead over there and plug them in!
Hang on. They really didn't want you to do that specifically so that they wouldn't have to regulate to avoid these issues.

Oh well.
