That's cute lol.

Were talking about freezing temperatures and power being out for ~48 hours for the majority of cases. Not that it's acceptable, but at the end of the day people are complete wuses. Toss on a few blankets, this isn't an apocalypse. I think people were more worried about their internet connection than anything else.

PGE is a CA thing where they had power turned off for a matter of weeks in some places simply from having "dry weather". PGE is damn near bankrupt and already has filed for bankruptcy previously with sky-high rates for incompetent work.

Believe me when I say - no one is going back to CA and it will forever be people migrating away from high taxation combined with government incompetence.
You're right. What's a few dead people matter? I think you were one of those people that said COVID was no worse then a normal flu

He applies his general medical conditions and physical capabilities to everyone, obviously. If he can manage it, ANYONE can...no matter their age, health, income, living situation, etc.

There's obviously no poor or elderly people in Texas, nor anyone without transportation. Grab a blanket, pussbag.

eh this is a lot worse than people losing power for 48 hours. Besides the dead people, the lack of faith in the system, there is a lot of property damage being reported due to water infrastructure issues. Just read an article earlier about the damage to homes in Austin is really bad and quite pervasive.

Yeah...pretty sure this is quite a bit more extensive and problematic than people whining about their internet being out.

I mean...that might be YOUR biggest issue, but that doesn't mean it applies to others.

His logic works like this... People have been known to live up to three days without water. Not sure what the big fuss is about. Where are these people bootstraps?

Now with free market cornholio-

It's deeply wrong that Texas regulations allow anybody to get screwed like that.
These are dumb fucks that used a service called Griddy. My neighbor was actually one of them.

Instead of signing a fixed rate contract that is easily and widely available, they opted for a service that allows for live market based pricing.

It works fine in nature on your typical days. It even gives you live warnings on your phone if the price spikes so you can turn off everything you can until it passes. Anyone who signed up for that knew the risks. Complaining about it after the fact is hilarious.

If I had that shit I would literally turn off my breaker entirely, gotten in the car and driven as far as louisiana and stayed in a hotel.

I also wouldn't be stupid enough to put myself in that situation to begin with.

Understand: Getting that market based pricing is a "new" thing, and it's something you have to seek out. You pay griddy $10/month and they give you market based pricing for their "service". Go to Powertochoose.com and you can see all the plans people can choose (though plans were obviously better prior to this)

I don’t care how much Texans end up paying for energy just as long as the American taxpayers don’t have to do the paying in the end. Texas voted for Trump and Cruz as well as Greg Abbott and now Texans should realize the price to pay goes far beyond utility bills.

One excuse I haven’t heard yet would be Abbott blaming the birds. Abbott blames the wind turbines and birds are a problem for wind turbines according to Trump, so the real problem are THE BIRDS. Those damn birds.... first it was Tippi Hedren, and now Texas.o_O

So what? The purpose of regulation is to prevent people from getting screwed one way or another, isn't it? This is just another aspect of how Texas fails to accomplish that when it comes to utilities. They created a level of gamesmanship the rest of us don't have to deal with, having over 100 providers available.

But it's Texas' regulations and not the federal government's, so it's all okie dokie even if people get a $20k power bill during an environmental emergency.

Watch Cruz argue for US taxpayers to, "help subsidize Texan's power bills in this unprecedented time..."

LOL. No, thats not how it works in life buttercup.

No one "got screwed". They knew the risks and implications that they took. They KNEW their plan was based on the market, and they knew that comes with a risk.

It's the same thing as insurance. You can buy your car or home insurance with as little as a $250 deductible, or a $5000 deductible - it's up to you what level of risk you want to take.

Regulation is to prevent people from getting screwed - sure - I'll agree with that. It's not to prevent someone from taking risk. It's no different than putting in $30,000 into a penny stock or taking $30,000 to Vegas. It's the risk you chose. Daddy government isn't here to tell you how much risk you're allowed to take.

This is the same logic republicans use to say they shouldn’t help states devastated by COVID. We are all one union. We should help Texas the same way we should help New York and Florida.

Yes, republicans are hypocrites about this, but don’t let their irresponsibility infect you.

Sure, but if you're (anyone really) only tuned into propaganda, whatever outlet that may be, then the world view is really limited.

So dishonest. People often take risks they don't really understand, like voting for Trump or taking a teaser rate 3 year adjustable rate mortgage in 2006. They also don't understand things like fire codes, tire specifications, cosmetic ingredients or things like lawn darts.

Qanon thinks Biden helped China gain access and hack the Texas power grid...

The basic outline of the theory is that President Joe Biden allowed China access to the U.S. power grid when he signed the Keystone Pipeline Executive Order, and by doing so somehow allowed China to hack the U.S. power grid and cause the blackouts that Texas has suffered over the last week.

They also think the snow is "fake" ... lol . "It doesn't melt. I'M SO TIRED"

Yet there are QAnon believers who are sharing conspiracy theories that the snow is not actually real snow. Sara Aniano went to the depths of QAnon Instagram to report on this. She noted, "Somewhere at the cross-section of QAnon/garden variety conspiracy theorists is this obsession with the snow in Texas - particularly the theory that it is not organic, but man made.

Look what antifa did to the weather!

It is allowable, IMO, however to note certain TX senators that voted to stiff the Northeast on Sandy aid yet have their own hands out after every hurricane, one of whom got caught slipping off to the Ritz in Cancun while millions of his constituents suffered. TX should get the money but people should never forget.

And I pay the same rate at all times. Wow, Texas is a ghetto state. People burning their own belongings to stay warm and having to boil snow for drinking water. See that shit in third world countries.

It is a lot of hutzpah for Texas politicians to be asking the Fed government for anything esp. given this was a feature not the bug of their deregulation stance. Up in New England we pay a lot of taxes and extra fees for winterization (snow removal, house upgrades for the winter, sprinkler blow outs, etc). It would be easier to do none of that and just get bailed out whenever we have an issue.

2011 called and disagrees. Second time in a decade and they did nothing different. Smart people will move out of that shithole state to someplace governed by people who give a crap about the citizens. These once in a hundred year events seem to be taking place a tad more frequently.

I'd actually argue just the opposite. Flock to Texas. Turn the government blue. You'd not only get officials that offer some kind of compassion to residents, you'd have the upshot of wrecking Republicans' dreams of one-party rule on both the state and federal levels.
