No you are not an idiot. You bid what you are willing to spend that will make you happy. If the price goes higher, you didn't get stuck in a bidding frenzy and overpay. If you get it, you get the product you want at the price that makes you happy. It is win/win if you bid early and leave.

not necesarily true. if you bid with 10 seconds left the other bidder may not have enough time to reply the bid. therefore you won't have to max out your limit.

It's called proxy bidding. If people got it, things would be alot less troublesome.

i hope your not complaining about it only being at 100$. I sold my 2 months ago for 115$ shipped. Its not worth all that much, especially used.

Pretty much. If I'm willing to pay $40 for something, that's what I bid. If somebody else feels like paying more, great, let them have it.

still smarter to snipe. If you are willing to bid $40 and max is only $35, you win. If you bid $40 with 10 hours left, the other bidder goes to $42 you lose. Pretty simple choice for me. Your still only bidding the max you would pay, but have a higher chance of winning.

wouldnt you rather get the item for less than you're willing to pay? Why would you get stuck in a bidding frenzy and overpay? if you don't want to spend more than a certain amount just stop bidding

sniping does get you it cheaper. Especially if there is no bidding war. If the bidder thinks he will win it with 10 seconds left, and your max gets bid, you win. Pretty simple i think.

We really should encourage people who take this view. It saves me money when I snipe.

your problem when you do that is that other people get in a bidding frenzy when they see they've been outbid by your proxy bid.

"oh just one more dollar won't hurt"
