Bicyclists have started doing a new thing that makes me furious

I've never seen this until a few months ago. Now I'm seeing it a few times a week. Not quite sure why this is a new thing all of a sudden.

I'll be driving on a busy road that has a bike lane on the side. A few bicyclists will be using the right most car lane instead of the bike line. They'll be going 15mph on a road where the speed limit is 45mph. This is very annoying as it completely screws up car traffic, but I can find reasons to explain to myself why they're doing it (maybe the bike lane isn't safe or something). But... this what makes me furious.... whenever they hit traffic or a stop light, they go back into the bike lane, and drive around the cars.

It's like they want to just to piss off drivers.

This country would be a lot better off if being an asshole became a capital offense. Granted, there'd only be like 12 people left. But they'd be very happy.

I think that you are being overly sensitive and are just looking for anything complain about!! They have the same right to mhe road as you do!!

They have a right to be on the road. More than likely there are pedestrians walking in the bike lane and it's safer for them to be on the road.

No, I believe if there is a bike lane present that is not obstructed then biking in the road is ticketable.

I don't have bike lanes here. I generally have no issues with cyclists, as I am one from time to time. The only time I honk at them and hope I scare them into running into a pole is when they are riding INTO traffic, which I do see with some scary regularity. It is always by a newb who is invariably not wearing a helmet and for some stupid fucking reason thinks that it is is safer to ride against traffic no his bike than with it. For bonus points in idiocy is when I have a green light and am taking a right and somebody on a bike, riding against traffic, rides across the crosswalk.

I like Asian driving rules. Biggest vehicle has right of way.

Honestly if there's a open bike lane and you feel that you deserve to cycle in a driving lane instead of the bike lane, then you're knowingly putting yourself in danger of traffic.

And in that case, you can't really complain when someone checks you with a mirror. Just saying.

In my opinion bicycles shouldn't be on any road that doesn't have a designated bike lane or a shoulder wider than 3 feet. Roads simply weren't designed to have cars and bikes sharing them and forcing cars cars traveling at 60mph+ to dodge bikes like obstacles is only asking for an accident.

A fairly busy road near here has a bike path next to it. Road is 5 lanes (2 each way with center turn). Bike lane is not on the road, the road has basically no shoulders (basically the concrete curb/drainage channel, so only a couple feet at most).

It's always some spandex clad dude who thinks he is too fucking cool for the bike path who wants to ride down a 50 mph road at 15 mph.

Shit, it's the same in the park system near here -- MILES AND MILES of bike trails and these same spandex clad assholes love to clog the 2 lane (1 each direction) road winding through it. Worst part is that one has very wide shoulders, but they couldn't possibly scoot over for a car to go by.

AND why is it never a group of hot spandex clad women!??!? Yes, yes guys, it is just awesome to have your spandex clad muscular buttocks flexing repeatedly in unison at my windshield while my wife ogles you, but you could get some new riders of the female persuasion to ride with you? Please?

edit: die spandex die

this

Yeah cyclists need to get the hell off of the roads. You either have your own bike lane, or path, or sidewalk. I will never risk a bike ride while big fast moving cars/trucks are near me, especially when most of them hate cyclists to begin with.

I am no cyclist but you are so wrong. If a car driver is dodging bikes while doing 60 mph then he should slow down or fuck off the roads and use public transport. Roads are not for the exclusive right of cars and it seems specifically car drivers have this narrow minded god given right view.

A road user is anyone using the road. There are clear restrictions when certain types of road user are not permitted. As I said I am not a cyclist but if you are one who regular uses the road network good on you. But please, please the near side of a HGV, dont pass for your own safety.

No, just no. If the speed limit is 60mph, then the cyclists have a death wish.

The speed limit is the max speed you can go. It doesn't mean you have a right to go 60 under all conditions. Besides that's a false start since bikes do not go on the freeway.

This thread tells me that the rules of the road are quite different in different states. And that I need to figure mine out before I hit the road with a bike.
