No, I pretty much just want to not be killed when I ride. I'd be perfectly happy with that.

Well ride safely then. Defer to automobile traffic at all times. Stay well clear of the things that you are in such danger from. They can't hit you if you're never in the way. Coincidentally that would also assuage the problems drivers have with cyclists at the same time.

I'm guessing that solution isn't satisfactory to you though.

Lmfaoooo funny thread.

Logically speaking I say bike lanes were designed for bikes so there's no reason a cyclist should be in the road if there are lanes in the area. I do understand that there are sometimes people walking in the path but that's a risk that the cyclists assumes. It's the same for motorists. IMO at least.

Running over a stupid pedestrian in a car makes you need a new bumper, and maybe windscreen.
Running into a stupid pedestrian on a bike usually means you break your clavicle.
I would say the risks are not the same.

As for the person suggesting that cyclists have to stop, despite having right of way - that's not how right of way works.

Jump to conclusions much?

You know what is really ironic? I do ride safely, I obey the law when I ride, I ride in the bike lanes, I stop at stop lights and don't blow through them, I yield right of way to auto traffic when they have the right of way and I still almost got killed a number of times by idiot drivers not paying attention (including a city bus).

There was one stretch on my commute where the city didn't extend the bike lanes through, it was about 1/2 mile long and I would ride as close to the curb as possible but after almost getting hit a few times I said fuck it and started taking the far right lane. At least I didn't have cars buzzing me when I did that.

My life is worth more to me than your time... I don't give a fuck if you're the President. :p

But hey, let's not let facts get in the way of your seething hatred of cyclists.

No, actually they don't IMO. I pay for those roads when I get a license plate and then my tabs. I pay at the pump. They don't. They use that road at my expense.

Gas taxes pay for 4% of road costs in Seattle. They don't even cover the maintenance required to repair the damage caused by vehicles.

Roads are primarily paid for by the general fund and property taxes. I own multiple properties in Seattle, and almost certainly pay considerably more in taxes than you do. But I'm a nice guy, so I'll let you continue using my roads.

Good to know you've blocked traffic before - helps justify my opinion that bike lanes should be partitioned and it be made unlawful to have a bike in a "car" (+motorcycle/truck) lane.

I don't block traffic anymore than a slow moving car blocks traffic. I take the lane when it is a safer option for me as the law allows in my state. I would gladly take safe bicycle lanes over taking the lane.

My life is worth more to me than your time... I don't give a fuck if you're the President.

shut the fuck up cyclist. I need my latte and I need it now, and will run your ass down to get it.

</driverrage>

related, which one of you AT'ers is this?

I've never seen this until a few months ago. Now I'm seeing it a few times a week. Not quite sure why this is a new thing all of a sudden.

I'll be driving on a busy road that has a bike lane on the side. A few bicyclists will be using the right most car lane instead of the bike line. They'll be going 15mph on a road where the speed limit is 45mph. This is very annoying as it completely screws up car traffic, but I can find reasons to explain to myself why they're doing it (maybe the bike lane isn't safe or something). But... this what makes me furious.... whenever they hit traffic or a stop light, they go back into the bike lane, and drive around the cars.

It's like they want to just to piss off drivers.

What they're doing is illegal. If they're in the car lane, they're required to keep up with traffic. They are impeding traffic and deserve a ticket or a bumper to the ass.

LMAOOOO... That's kind of irrelevant though considering cars have to worry about other 3,000+ lb vehicles smashing into them on a regular basis. But anyway I just meant the fact that there are other people using the road and that we know that as drivers. Cyclists should too.

I was almost taken out by a car running a red while I was biking to work this morning. Well, they got me tonight. Biking home while in the bike lane, so dumbass(learned afterwards it was a student driver) swerved into the bike lane and took me out.

Landed on my left side right in front of the vehicle, thankfully they didn't run me over. My whole left side is bruised, dress shoes torn up and my TNF Mtn Light jacket has a tear in it.

Lots of witnesses everyone yelling at me not to move but I eventually got up. I didn't want an ambulane to come so the cops just came and b/c it was a student driver they didn't give her a ticket, unbelievable. Give it to the instructor then.

They don't make my shoes or jacket anymore so even if I get money from them, I can't really replace them. Still haven't gone over my bike yet.

Add insult to injury, they didn't even say sorry or apoogize for hitting me. But I have a police report and lots of witnesses. My fun story for the day.

Is the bike okay? First thing I would do is have your LBS draft up a letter on their letterhead with the estimated value of your bike.

lol. I bet all you "law abiding" buy the book bullshitters break other laws and have done so variably most of your life. Like kicking that gas pedal just a tad over speed limit among other things. Why do hypocrites always think they have a right to an opinion?

If bicyclists want the same access to public roads as motor vehicles, then they should be licensed and insured in the same manner that vehicles and drivers are, AND they must obey the same laws as drivers of motor vehicles vehicles.

Until then, it should be open season on anyone operating a bicycle on a public road.

Rage, much? I *don't* bike anywhere, am 6'4" and weigh 190lb. But hey, all people who drive and hate cyclists MUST be fat, yes?

let's be real here - drivers don't even follow those laws. I see on a daily basis drivers breaking the following laws:

speeding, changing without signaling, failure to stop at stop signs, right turns/left turns from non-turn lanes, failure to stay in lane, etc, etc, etc. I don't see you calling death to those drivers. :whiste:

this is fundamental and necessary for law enforcement and I would also require liability insurance. A vehicle is a vehicle.

Sensitive topic. I'm a polite bicyclist. I ride on the edge of the road. I'll stop at the sign and let you pass even if I stopped first (mainly because you'll just pass me again 30 seconds later), etc.. I still get the occasional slack jawed yokel that thinks it's funny to get way too close for comfort because he has to show his dominance or they honk and cuss and keep driving. I will admit though 99% of the time everyone is courteous and shares the road because after all I'm just out riding a friggin bicycle.

Cyclists will soon enjoy their share of road taxes and bicycle licenses. Because if they use the road, they're fair game to be taxed. Right?

In the UK low emissions makes them tax exempt.

What pisses me off is when a car is ahead of a bike and gives signal to go left but the bike is traveling so fast that the bike almost collides with the car turning left.

.

I think there are reflective pieces of glass on the sides of cars to make sure this does not happen. No, car drivers have no idea what I am talking about.

If a car is turning left, you don't try to pass it on the left. If you're trying that - on a bicycle or in a car, you're an idiot.

I drive a truck. I do all I can to prevent myself from killing or maiming people. So if an idiot does try to pass me I will see him in my mirrors and I fucking stop.

Don't worry, I get my enjoyment from the morons who get on the road. They get the &*^# off the road when someone sits behind them in neutral revving the engine. It's fun watching them shit their spandex.

You rev your engine at bicyclists?

Holy hell you seem like a huge pussy.
