Bicycles Are Evil But The Bicycle Lobby Is All Powerful

Didn't watch. If they are claiming that bicyclists are taking unneeded self destructive risks, then I agree.

- bike stations are eyesores and are ruining the aesthetics of some of the nicer neighborhoods
- bike stations are a firehazard as they block the firetrucks from some places
- bikers are dangerous and have no respect for the rules of the road
- while cabs have big signs warning riders to be careful of cyclists when opening the door, there's nothing comparable for cyclists warning them to respect the rules of the road and stay off the side walks
- bikers feel that because they're part of the forward-leaning, good-for-the-earth movement, they're entitled to break all the rules

i think that's the highlights, besides some stuff on Bloomberg being autocratic and the city being helpless before him

Marked for later.

Anyway, I don't have any problems with people on bikes. It's the ones who ride aggressively who bug me. Those that run stop signs/traffic lights, never signal, or ride in huge hoards that take up a full lane on a busy road. Yes, drivers are idiots. They do not look for bikes or respect them, which is a huge danger to cyclists.

Unfortunately, a lot of cyclists take their safety for granted, and they don't respect motorists either. I saw a guy riding his bike on my way home from work last Friday. On a racing bike in his Lance Armstrong wannabe spandex. This was at dusk on a high speed country road. He had no reflective clothing, lighting, or reflectors on his bike. He startled the car in front of me, who hit the breaks. I didn't see him myself until I was almost on top of him. His grey outfit blended perfectly with the fields at that hour. Fortunately there was no traffic or else I think the guy in front of me may have hit him.

When I talk to motorcycle riders, they're resigned to the fact that car and SUV drivers don't pay attention to small vehicles. Thus they ride cautiously, looking far ahead, making sure they're as easy to see and hear as possible. They know the danger and take active steps to minimize it. Cyclists tend to treat collisions as always being the driver's fault. If you don't make yourself seen, or obey the rules of the road, you're setting yourself up for trouble. Safety has to work both ways.

I'm a cyclist who always rides defensively and makes sure to follow the rules of the road. Gotta love dumb bitches like this who lump giant demographics into one pile. Some people are assholes, this extends to cyclists. They aren't all perfect, but it doesn't mean we're all evil or something.

this.

for every douchebag cyclist, there are 3094853945 douchebag drivers (only because there are so many more drivers than cyclists).

i don't recall her saying EVERY cyclist was a problem

just because you're perfect doesn't mean there's not a problem with cyclists being a-holes in nyc

You're either a liar or ignorant on what the rules of the road are. Bicyclists, never, ever follow the rules of the road.

That is what I've come to notice as well.
I pride myself in being an avid cyclist, but zero of it is on the road.
Just tonight got back from a 22K ride at the local trail, drove there, bike off the car, ride the trail, bike on the car, drive home. I do not like road riders that hog the road and don't give a shit about motorists. They drive me insane.

Since Rupert Murdoch bought the Wall Street Journal it has gone bananas. Giving a crazy person like that an audience on the WSJ website just shows that the WSJ has become a joke.

You don't need to watch past the point where the host points out that 597 people were killed by automobiles over the last 10 years in New York City and none by bikes, yet the crazy ladies response is that everyone knows the number one threat to pedestrians is bicycles.
